Is Anthony Joshua throwing his career away by fighting Fury?

By Craig Daly: Anthony Joshua is taking a major career gamble by agreeing to fight Tyson Fury on December 3rd. If Joshua loses, it’s going to be next to impossible for him to come back from this.

If the defeat to Fury is really bad, it’s possible that Joshua could choose to hang up his gloves. Joshua’s net worth is $80 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. With that kind of money, Joshua has no need to continue in boxing.

It’s a big risk for Joshua, who has lost three out of his last five fights and came up short in his last two contests against Oleksandr Usyk.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn wanted to take the safe approach by taking a couple of tune-ups for AJ to get his feet under him before facing tougher challenges.

AJ overruled Hearn, letting him know that he wanted to take the risky fight with Fury.

Earlier today, Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs) accepted all the terms for the Fury fight. The fight will take place at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.

Now it’s up to the negotiators for both fighters to decide on the joint broadcast deal for the fight, which shouldn’t be difficult to do given that AJ and Fury are open to this.

“Absolutely, I think this is a no-brainer for Anthony Joshua, really. He’s coming off of two losses to Oleksandr Usyk. It’s a gift from the heavens,” said Spencer Oliver to Sky Sports about Anthony Joshua to potentially face Tyson Fury on December 3rd.

“He’s got the chance to fight Tyson Fury, the guy that everyone regards as the #1 in the division. Anthony Joshua gets that opportunity. This has been three years in the making, and we get it out of nowhere.

“It’s a bonus for boxing fans and a gift for Anthony Joshua to get himself back up to the top.

“It’s back to the drawing board, and it would be up to Joshua to decide what he wants to do,” said Oliver when asked what happens if Joshua loses. Does he want to continue in the sport?

“Does he want to go through that rebuilding process because it’s a long road back? It is a big gamble for Joshua. Listen, he’s a two-time heavyweight champion of the world.

“He’s done it all, and he’s only craving the big fights now. What bigger fight that he can get than Tyson Fury?” said Oliver.
