Manny Robles says Ryan Garcia lacks experience to beat Gervonta Davis

By Jim Calfa: Trainer Manny Robles says Ryan Garcia hasn’t fought anyone on the level of a world champion like Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, and he doesn’t see him as winning that fight if it happens this year.

The mad rush that the 23-year-old Ryan (23-0, 19 KOs) is in to fight Tank Davis as fast as possible appears to be motivated by a desire to get a big paycheck before he’s found out by one of the top fighters at 140.

Fans believe that if Ryan really believed in himself, he’d fight top contenders or other champions to prepare himself for a fight of the magnitude of Tank Davis.

Unfortunately, we haven’t seen that from Ryan. Instead of fighting the quality guys, Ryan has fought fringe-level fighters like Javier Fortuna, Luke Campbell, Franciso Fonseca, and Romero Duno.

“I would have to pick the world champion [Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis just because he’s the more experienced fighter of the two,” said trainer Manny Robles to Fight Hub TV when asked to pick a winner between Ryan Garcia and Tank Davis.

“Ryan Garcia hasn’t been there yet. He hasn’t fought anyone of the likes of [Tank Davis]. Ryan Garcia hasn’t fought anyone of the likes of a champion or anyone at that level.

“I have nothing but respect for Ryan Garcia, and I think he’s a great fighter. If I had to pick one, I’d have to pick Tank,” said Robles.

It’s easy to pick Tank over Ryan because it’s a mismatch in terms of experience between the two fighters.

“I can’t sit here and talk about nobody. I don’t know what the issue really is with Adrien Broner. He’s a good friend of mine. I have nothing but the utmost respect for him,” said Robles in reaction to Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis criticizing him after his pull out of his fight against Omar Figueroa Jr.

“It’s hard to sit here and judge anyone unless you’re there and know what’s really going on. So I’m not going to sit here and judge someone, especially Adrien Broner. He’s a character, yes, but I believe this is a serious matter.

“We as a boxing community should support fighters that are going through such issues,” said Robles.
