Jermall Charlo calls out Terence Crawford at 154

By Robert Segal: Terence Crawford has got Jermall Charlo riled up after calling out his twin brother Jermell, who is not interested in facing the highly technical welterweight champion.

Jermall says he wants to fight Crawford (38-0, 29 KOs) and that he’d drop down to 154 to make the fight happen. That would be courageous if Crawford were to accept a fight against the much bigger Jermall, especially if he doesn’t insist on a rehydration clause to handicap him.

It’s unclear how serious Charlo (32-0, 22 KOs) is in fighting Crawford, but if he is on the level about wanting that match, that would be a massive fight.

By a longshot, Crawford would easily be the biggest fight of Jermall’s 14-year professional career.

If Crawford wins his fight against Spence or even loses, a match between him and Jermall would be exciting for fans to see them contest it at 154.

It’ll make Jermell look bad if Jermall takes care of Crawford at 154 rather than him because that should be the fight he takes rather than his bro. Although the two are twins, Jermall has a bigger frame and is more powerful than Jermell.

“Terence Crawford, I’ll fight him,” said Jermall Charlo to Showtime Boxing when asked who he would like to fight if given a chance. “I’ll fight you, Terence.

“I’ll come back down to 154 to fight Terence,” said Charlo, who said he’s willing to drop down a weight class to face Crawford.

Jermall hasn’t fought at 154 since his fifth-round knockout win over Julian ‘J-Rock’ Williams in December 2016, and he looked drained in making the weight for that fight.

After five years at 160, it would be difficult for Charlo to make the 154-lb limit for a fight against Crawford, but he could probably do it.

The only question is whether Jermall would be weakened from the ordeal of getting down to 154, but it shouldn’t matter. Even a weight-drained Jermall would have the size & power advantage over Crawford, and he should be able to take his punches.

“Spence,” said Jermall when asked who wins between Errol Spence and Terence Crawford. “Y’all haven’t seen that Terence isn’t versatile like you think. Them Texas boys [Spence] are different. It’s hot in Texas. We’re different.

“All that don’t matter. It’s a fight; a fight is going to break out,” said Charlo when told that Crawford is a good finisher and athletic.

“Before I hang up the gloves, I want to go down as one of the greatest fighters that ever laced them up. I don’t care about being undefeated. I’m just undefeated.

“I get in there, and I fight, I get in there and train hard, and I just want to be one of the best professional athletes that I can be,” said Charlo.
