Canelo should NOT fight Bivol again says Roy Jones Jr

By Sean Jones: Roy Jones Jr. is warning Canelo Alvarez that he should give up on the idea of fighting Dmitry Bivol ever again, be it at 175 or 168. Jones says Canelo (57-2-2, 39 KOs) should “leave it alone” and return to the super middleweight division to fight David Benavidez, Demetrius Andrade, or the Charlo brothers.

Canelo’s chances against the young killer Benavidez (25-0, 22 KOs) are arguably worse than in a rematch with Bivol, so that’s not a good option.

Roy might as well be asking Canelo to walk over a side of a cliff because he’s no better off taking on Benavidez than he would by mixing it up with Bivol again.

Sean Jones thinks it would be worse for Canelo to fight a talent like Benavidez because he’d likely get knocked out and humiliated worse than he was by Bivol.

Jones Jr. says it’s a wrong style match-up for Canelo to be tangling with Bivol (20-0, 11 KOs), as we already witnessed with the Mexican star being clowned earlier this month on May 7th.

He shouldn’t fight him at 175 or 168. You leave it alone,” said Roy Jones Jr. to Fighthype when asked if Canelo Alvarez should fight Dmitry Bivol in a rematch in September.

The fundamental problem we have here is that Canelo is ‘The Face of Boxing,’ and when you hold that position, you’re expected to beat EVERYONE you face. When you lose, as Canelo did against the talented Bivol, you got to at least try and avenge the loss.

“Bivol isn’t the guy for him to fight. Bivol has got the wrong style for him,” Jones Jr. continued about Canelo needing to stay away from WBA light heavyweight champion Bivol.

“If I went up to that weight class and he beat me, I would have taken my behind back down to my weight class,” said Jones Jr when asked if he would have felt the need to try and avenge a loss if he’d been beaten the way Canelo was by Bivol.

“Go back down to 168. Don’t fight Bivol; it’s too dangerous,” said Jones Jr. when asked what Canelo should do next.

“Go fight somebody like the Charlo brothers, Boo Boo Andrade, you got David Benavidez, and you got plenty of super middleweights in your weight class that will give you a run for your money that you will probably be favored to beat.

“David Benavidez because he fights in a volume and will be a problem,” Jones Jr. explained why Canelo will have issues with Benavidez. “Boo Boo Andrade, because he’s a southpaw, will be a problem.

“Dmitry Bivol isn’t the fighting style for you. He’s got disciplined feet and long-range, and he’s not a power puncher with every punch. That’s very dangerous for anybody,” said Jones Jr.
