Kambosos calls Devin & Bill Haney “My biggest fans”
By Allan Fox: George Kambosos Jr. posted an old video clip this week of Devin Haney & his dad Bill celebrating his victory over Teofimo Lopez last November. Kambosos had a laugh over the video, calling Haney (27-0, 15 KOs) and Bill his “biggest fans.”
Of course, the reality is that the true reason for WBC lightweight Haney and Bill celebrating Kambosos’ victory is because they felt confident they could set up a unification clash with him.
In the case of Teofimo, Haney & Bill didn’t believe they could get a fight against him, as they’d had no luck in the year that he held the four titles after his win over Vasyl Lomachenko in 2020.
At least with Kambosos, Haney felt that he could get a fight with him for the undisputed lightweight championship.
Kambosos (20-0, 10 KOs) says he had some more gotcha moments to spring on Haney in the upcoming press conference for their June 5th fight at the Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia.
While Kambosos might succeed in embarrassing Haney, he’s not likely to throw him off his game with the stuff that he’s doing outside of the ring. The 23-year-old Haney is too mentally strong to be unnerved by what Kambosos is doing, and he’s young & resilient. With young guys like Haney, mind tricks don’t affect him.

Kambosos’ tricks seemed to work against Teofimo, but he arguably isn’t as mentally strong as Haney. You could see the frustration in Teofimo during his fight with Kambosos, reacting to the things he was doing. Teofimo never seemed to recover from being embarrassed by the first-round knockdown that he suffered.
“On June 5th, reality will kick in. It’ll kick in from round one,” said Kambosos to the media about his fight with Haney. “I found it very funny,” said Kambosos about Devin & his father Bill Haney celebrating moments after his win over Teofimo Lopez last November.
“I waited for the right time. I’ve had that video for many months,” Kambosos continued about having the video of Haney & Bill celebrating his win over Teofimo. “The way I look at it, he’s celebrating a foreigners’ victory.
“I just put it out for the world that this guy was celebrating a foreigner’s victory. I’ve got a few more tricks up my sleeves. You guys are going to have to wait for the press conference,” said Kambosos.
