Dean Whyte says Dillian will be “explosive” for Tyson Fury fight

By Barry Holbrook: Dean Whyte says Dillian ‘The Body Snatcher’ Whyte is going to be in fine form looking  “explosive” next month when he takes on Tyson Fury for his WBC heavyweight title in front of a crowd of 100,000 fans at the sold out Wembley Stadium in London, England.

As most boxing fans believe, Whyte (28-2, 19 KOs) basically has only a puncher’s chance of beating the highly skilled 6’9″ Fury (31-0-1, 22 KOs) in this contest.

However, Dean Whyte feels that Dillian has the skills & intelligence to box with Fury when needed, and mix things up.

With Fury, Whyte can’t just show him one look because he’ll quickly negate that game plan, and box circles around him.

It’s expected that Whyte will come out slugging like he did in his last two fights against 42-year-old Alexander Povetkin. Whyte will need a Plan-B because Fury and his trainer SugarHill Steward are already planning how to take away that game plan from him.

If Dillian can box Fury, use movement, it might throw him off a little, and help ensure the fight goes into the later rounds. Fury is likely to weigh in the 270s for the fight, which will make it difficult for him to move around the ring.

“He’s just cracking on, man. He’s definitely not quiet. He’s talking somewhere else where you can’t hear him. He’s very vocal, and all the boys you know, he is very loud,” said Dean Whyte to TalkSport Boxing about Dillian Whyte.

“This morning he was getting some mad jokes with the group. He’s off his box, he’s good. I think he’s definitely in good spirits,” said Dean about Whyte.

“I’m actually going out there on Sunday after the show to just catch up and get into the camp to see what they’re doing. I want to have a look to make sure that I would think because I have an eye for boxing.

“I want to know if they’re doing the right things about what I feel like he might need to do to get the better of Tyson Fury,” Whyte said about Dillian.

“Right now, I think he just said, ‘I’m going to get my head down and just crack on. It could change, you never know, but I think he’s going to get his head down. As fight week approach, then he might do what he needs to do,” said Dean about Dillian possibly doing some talking to the media.

It’s unlikely that Whyte will break his silence and speak to the media during fight week. Ideally, Whyte should be professional about it and be a team player.

If not for the promoters that bid $41 million to stage the Fury-Whyte contest, then for himself because he could hurt his ability to get matches.

Assuming Whyte loses to Fury, you’d hate to see him avoided by other promoters, fearful that he’ll not help out with the promotion or worse, pulling out of the contest with an injury as we saw for his fight with Otto Wallin last October.

“Most of the talking is going to be done in the ring, and I think we’re going to see a big strong explosive Dillian getting busy,” said Dean on the Fury vs. Whyte bout. “Dillian is always confident. I think the fight is a big fight and a great fight for the UK.

“We’ve got so many heavyweights at the top of the pinnacle of the sport,” Dean said of the Fury vs. Whyte match-up. “They say it’s one of the biggest purses in the history over here.

“With all of that said, Dillian has just got to go out there, he’s winning in life, and he’s winning in everything he’s done, especially where we come from. I feel like he’s a force, and that force needs to be shown in that ring.

“A lot of the guys that fought Tyson Fury, I don’t think they came with that sheer brute force and will. They keep comparing [Derek] Chisora to Dillian. They don’t fight nothing the same.

“Me and Chisora get on really well, a good guy, but their fighting styles aren’t the same. Dillian is a very, very high-level fighter boxer, so it’s going to be interesting. He’s going to have to do all of it on the night.

“Not too much boxing but you have to be smart and position yourself to get the victory. But we’re going to see, we got some work to do. One thing we know is that when he does hit Tyson Fury, he’s going to stay tangled, mate,” said Dean about Dillian.
