By Jim Calfa: Devin Haney took to social media on Tuesday to warn Rolando Romero to stop mentioning his name. One way for Haney to get Rolando to stop talking about him would be to defend his WBC 135-lb belt against him.

The unbeaten Rolando, who used to go by the nickname ‘Rolly’, has been taking shots at WBC lightweight champion Haney (27-0, 15 KOs) on Youtube, taunting him about his lack of punching power and saying he’s the “weakest link” among the 135-lb champions.

“I got a really, really important announcement, but Devin Haney is a f*** b**ch,’ said Rolando Romero on social media in continuing to pester Haney.

In what appears to be a reaction from Haney to Rolando’s latest attack on social media, he said this on Twitter today:

The “tree jumper” is slang for a sex offender. This appears to be Haney taking a shot at Romero based on the sexual accusations that surfaced last December.

The subsequent investigation about the sexual assault accusations has resulted in the 26-year-old  Romero being cleared as of Monday. ESPN reported that the Henderson police department in Nevada cleared Rolando of the charges.

Unfortunately for Rolando, he was pulled from his December 5th card last month against Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis for their headliner on SHOWTIME PPV at the Staples Center in Las Vegas.

The promoters replaced Rolando with Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz. Being removed from the card cost Romero a payday that would have been in the millions.

On Instagram, Rolando posted this late Monday night:

“False accusations, having to miss out on opportunities, cheated out of my dream, and out of a massive amount of wealth, the investigation into the allegations made against me has been formally closed,” said Rolando. Charges were not filed because the allegations could not be substantiated because, as I always stated, I am innocent.”

Despite missing out on the lucrative fight with Tank Davis, Rolando has an excellent chance of fighting him in the summer. The two fighters are both with Mayweather Promotions, which will make it an easy fight to put together.

In Rolando’s recent fights, he’s beaten these fighters:

  • Anthony Yigit
  • Avery Sparrow
  • Jackson Marinez
  • Arturs Ahmetovs
  • Juan Carlos Cardones

As for Haney, he has an excellent chance of facing undisputed lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr. in May in a match in Australia. Kambosos named Haney as one of a handful of fighters that he’s considering for his next fight.
