By Ian Aldous @ Ringside: There was little to separate Chantelle Cameron and Mary McGee in the opener of their WBC, IBF & Ring Magazine 140-pound unified world title fight. A trio of head clashes by the end of the second round reddened the facial features of Cameron, while a push put McGee on her backside. Cameron’s workrate and quality appeared to put her in control of the third. McGee started the fourth aggressively but ended up on the ropes shipping a series of hard left hooks and rights. Cameron was starting to bank rounds and land shots with both hands. By round seven she had a decent lead. The American was caught flush with a number of lefts and rights on the ropes, her head rocking back. They stood toe-to-toe and traded punches in the middle of the ring like warriors as the eighth concluded. Effective moving forward or on the backfoot, this was Cameron’s fight. McGee went for broke in a frantic final round, to no avail. Cameron kept her WBC title and gained the IBF & Ring Magazine belts via scores of 100-90, 99-91 and 99-92.

Just seconds into their heavyweight slugfest, Alen Babic dropped Eric Molina with an overhand right. Molina just about survived and even landed some clean rights of his own, but the American was on the canvas three more times in the second round, two of which it was hard to tell, from ringside, what actually hurt him. It was all over. The Babic hype train continues to 9-0 with a 100% KO ratio. Here’s hoping the Croat faces a sterner test soon.

Having sold over 1500 tickets, Johnny Fisher was eager to put on a show against Alvaro Terrero. The 22-year-old heavyweight landed a combination in the second and dropped his Spanish opponent. He clubbed him down a second time as a wobbly looking Terrero was allowed to continue. The towel was rightly thrown in after he went down a third time. Fisher moves to 4-0 – all by knockout.

Craig ‘Spider’ Richards enforced his superiority early on against Marek Matyja in their scheduled ten-round light-heavyweight bout. However, the Pole snuck in some hard right hands as the lacklustre fight continued. Despite that, the former British 175-pound champion was banking the rounds. A couple of vicious uppercuts in the sixth accelerated Matyja’s demise. A subsequent barrage of lefts and rights over the course of thirty seconds or so finished him, with the referee calling a halt to the contest. He bounces back from his world title loss and claims a WBA ranking title at the same time.

Opening the DAZN card, a battle of the jabs ensued as Youssef Khoumari and Jorge Castaneda battled for a regional WBC super-featherweight title, before the American opened up and let his hands go in the second round. Khoumari, boxing in his home city, evened things up in the third with his right hand landing solidly, and looked sharper as the fight progressed – his back hand landing with more regularity. The temperature rose in the seventh round of a highly-skilled and competitive contest. Neither man took a backward step after being caught flush. A left hand that caught him behind the ear wobbled Khoumari in the eighth as Castaneda grasped control. Jorge Castaneda followed his upset of Otha Jones III earlier this year by repeating the trick here. Scores of 97-93, 96-94 and 95-95 saw him upset Khoumari and claim the WBC strap in a close fight.

Headlining the Youtube-broadcast portion of the card, Ellie Scotney pressured Eva Cantos for every second of their eight-round contest. Despite shipping quite a few shots, Scotney outworked her Spanish opponent for a 79-73 win in her first time going eight rounds.

Manchester’s Jordan Thompson timed a perfectly-produced right hand to knock out Piotr Podlucki in the very first round of their cruiserweight clash. At 6’6” with nine stoppages in 11 bouts, Thompson is one to watch.

John Hedges boxed nicely out of the southpaw stance, illustrating his defensive skills spectacularly at times. The 19-year-old went the six round distance, and remains undefeated, securing a 60-54 points win over Ben Thomas.

Irish heavyweight, Thomas Carty successfully navigated his second pro contest with a third round stoppage. A bloodied Igors Vasilijevs thankfully stayed down for the full count after taking a lot of punishment.
