By Mark Eisner: David ‘Hayemaker’ Haye (29-4, 26 KOs) looked good on Saturday in defeating cruiserweight Joe Fournier (9-1, 9 KOs) by a one-sided eight round unanimous decision and immediately calling out Tyson Fury for a fight.

The scores were:

  • 79-72
  • 80-71
  • 79-72

Haye, 40, showed brief glimpses of his punching power and hand speed in pounding out a decision win over 38-year-old businessman Fournier at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Hollywood, Florida.

For the most part, Haye focused on jabbing and using head movement to avoid the power shots from Fournier. It was more of a defensive show for Haye, as he looked like he was holding back from unloading with his out of respect for Fournier.

Early on, Haye threw a handful of right hands to get Fournier’s respect because he was coming at him like a machine.

Fournier had knockout written all over his power shots, and you could tell that he was trying hard to get Haye out of there. Fournier showed respectable power, but he couldn’t land enough of his punches to hurt Haye.

Haye calls out Tyson Fury

“It got the juices flowing,” said Haye to Fighthype moments after the fight when asked how he felt after his win over Fournier. “I proved my point to Joe that I’m better than he is.

“I think he can attest to that now. So we can carry on being friends. I’m glad I didn’t hurt him.

“He finished. A few bumps and bruises. Outside of that, he’s in good shape, so I’m really happy. Tyson Fury is the only one I want to come back for, to be honest.

“I know I can come back and be sharp. The jabs that I was landing, Tyson Fury would have a big right hand coming after it. I didn’t want to show what I had.

“I didn’t want to show the ‘Hayemaker.’ Hopefully, he’s confident to jump in there with me to give the fans what they want.

“To get in the ring with him, that’s it,” said Haye when asked what he needs to do to get the Tyson Fury fight. “Once I’m in the ring. I know what he sees in me when he sees me.

I know how he [Fury] thinks. He thinks this is the right time to get me, and that’s great. Yes, it’s the perfect time.

“I’m 40-years-old, inactivity, six rounds. You can’t make anything out of that. I know what I got, and it’s way more than he can handle,” said Haye.
