Alvarez vs. Plant: Will Canelo be exposed by Caleb on Nov.6th??

By Dan Ambrose: Caleb Plant may have the kryptonite fighting style to weaken Canelo Alvarez and expose him as limited in their undisputed 168-lb clash on November 6th on FOX Sports PPV in Las Vegas.

Canelo (56-1-2, 38 KOs) has always had trouble against tricky fighters with masterful boxing skills, but now he may have even more trouble.

Even before he convinced himself that he’s a knockout artist, the Mexican star Canelo was getting outboxed by Floyd Mayweather Jr., Erislandy Lara, Austin Trout, and Gennadiy Golovkin.

With the changes that Canelo has made with his game since his second fight with Golovkin in 2018, he’s become a one-dimensional fighter, who loads up on single punches, and throws very few shots per round.

Canelo has always had a poor work rate, even during the early years, but now it’s dropped even further due to his 100% focus on his power game.

At this point, Canelo may have gone beyond the point of no return in terms of changing back to how he used to fight.

Alvarez is getting older and doesn’t possess the cardio to throw 40+ punches per round. For that reason, Plant has a real chance of outworking Canelo on November 6th and making him look bad inside the ring.

Plant to expose the ‘toy cannon’ Canelo

At 31, Canelo has picked up some bad habits in loading up on EVERYTHING he throws, as he seems to fancy himself as a Gennadiy Golovkin type of fighter.

As small as the 5’8″ Canelo is, it’s not a good idea for him to be changing his fighting style at this late juncture of his 16-year professional career.

Canelo is the equivalent of a toy cannon with the way he loads up on single power shots and has abandoned the normal boxing style that has taken him this far.

IBF super middleweight champion Plant (21-0, 12 KOs) has thrived at defeating sluggers since his days in the amateurs. His fighting style is totally suited towards disarming short punchers like Canelo and making them look bad.

Canelo will be bringing his WBA, WBC, and WBO 168-lb titles with him on November 6th to meet IBF champion Plant for the undisputed championship bout.

The winner of the fight will make history by becoming the first 168-lb four-belt champion for the division.

DiBella: Plant’s style is difficult

“Caleb Plant is a terrific fighter, and I think his style is difficult for people,” said promoter Lou DiBella to ESNEWS. “I would never bet against Canelo Alvarez because right now he’s the best fighter in the world.

“He’s a great fighter, and he’s at the peak of his abilities right now. Until someone beats him, I’m not going to pick against Canelo, but I’ll tell you this.

“Caleb Plant deserves the fight, and his style is one that can give anybody some problems. So, I think it’s going to be a good fight,” said DiBella.
