Mayweather could ruin his legacy if Logan Paul beats him – says Carl Froch

By Charles Brun: Carl Froch says Floyd Mayweather Jr could completely wreck his legacy if he gets beaten by YouTuber Logan Paul this Sunday, June 6th, in their eight-round exhibition match at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida. Sky Sports will be showing it in the UK on PPV.

The card will be shown on Showtime pay-per-view. The fight action starts at 8:00 p.m. ET.

It’s unclear if the Mayweather vs. Logan Paul exhibition will be a fake-looking fight in which both guys aren’t putting any power into their shots or if it’ll be like a real fight.

In the recent Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr exhibition match, those two old-timers looked like they were playing around and not trying to hurt each other.

The fans thought they would be fighting for real, which is why they were willing to purchase it on PPV. If the Mayweather-Paul exhibition is a similar fight, it’ll be like watching a choreographed professional wrestling match.

“It’s got your interest because Logan Paul is so big, Mayweather has been retired for so long, and you do think, ‘Oh what if Mayweather ruins his whole legacy by losing to a YouTuber?’ That’s the appeal. That’s going to make you watch it,” said Froch to Sky Sports.

Losing to Logan would be a massive blow to the career of Mayweather and would definitely tarnish everything that he accomplished during his career.

Some argue that Mayweather has already done damage to his legacy by hustling fights against former UFC star Conor McGregor and Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa.

At least with McGregor and Tenshin, they came from a combat sports background. They weren’t handpicked from a non-sport.

That’s the pathetic thing about the Mayweather – Logan exhibition. It looks wrong that Mayweather has picked out a YouTuber to fight on PPV rather than a former boxer.

The 44-year-old Mayweather is taking on a guy that is much bigger, stronger, and younger in 26-year-old cruiserweight Logan. Mayweather looks a lot older than 44, resembling someone in his late 50s.

It’s unclear what kind of lifestyle Mayweather has been living since he retired in 2015.

It may not matter that Logan didn’t have an amateur career and only recently took up the sport in the last two years. Mayweather is very old and much, much smaller than Paul.

“I don’t want to say he’s got a chance, but he has got a chance, Logan Paul, because he looks like he can shape up quite well. He’s had a couple of fights, and he’s so big,” said Froch.

Losing to Logan Paul could be the beginning of a downward spiral for Mayweather’s legacy and reputation. Let’s be clear. Mayweather won’t retire after this fight, win or lose. He’s going to keep doing these matches, and we could see him get beaten many times.

Mayweather will likely continue fighting exhibition matches into his 60s, and it’s going to be a running joke at some point. The way Mayweather is aging, he could soon resemble someone in his 60s.

“Mayweather could end up making a mockery of his whole career,” Froch said. “If he gets caught and gets put down, it will be embarrassing. If he loses, he might as well get a one-way ticket to Australia.”
