Boxing Results: Nordine Oubaali Upset by Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire for WBC Bantam Title!

By Ken Hissner: At the Punch Bowl, Dignity Health Sports Park, in Carson, California, Saturday over Showtime TGB Promotions – Tom Brown featured in the Main Event WBC Bantamweight champion Nordine Oubaali was knocked out by the former four-division world champion No. 1 ranked Nonito “Filipino Flash” Donaire.

In the co-feature Subriel “Browny” Matias and Batyrzhan “777” Jukembayev in a Super Lightweight match.

In the Main Event WBC Bantam champ southpaw Nordine Oubaali, 17-1 (12), #117½, of Bagnolet, Seine-St. Denis, France, was knocked out by former 4-division world champ Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire, 41-6 (27), #117 ½, of PH and Las Vegas, NV, at 1:52 of the fifth round of a scheduled 12 rounds.

In the third round, Donaire dropped Oubaali twice with left hooks to the chin. Referee Jack Reiss gave Oubaali too much time after the second knockdown and was all but out as the bell sounded. In the fifth round, a left, right and left uppercut on the chin from Donaire dropped Oubaali for the count.

In the co-feature Super Lightweight Subriel “Browny” Matias, 17-1 (17), #139½, of Fajardo, PR, stopped Batyrzhan “777” Jukembayev, 18-1 (14), #139¾, of Shu, KAZ, after 8 rounds of a scheduled 12 rounds.

In the fourth round, a right followed by a left on the chin from Matias dropped Jukembayev for an 8-count, but he came back well. In the seventh round, Jukembayev hurt Matias with a left on the chin near the end of the round. In the eighth, Matias had Jukembayev hurt for most of the round, causing much swelling under the eyes of Jukembayev. In the corner, the trainer of Jukembayev stopped the fight.

Super Lightweight Olympian southpaw Gary Antuanne Russell, 14-0 (14), #137¼, of Capitol Heights, MD, stopped Jovanie “El Lobito” Santiago, 14-2-1 (10), #140 of Dorado, PR, after 6 rounds of a scheduled 10 rounds.

In the fourth round, a right hook on the chin from Russell dropped Santiago for an 8-count by referee Sharon Sands. In the fifth round, Santiago was cut on the outside of his left eyebrow. At the end of the sixth round, the corner of Santiago stopped the fight.
