By Allan Fox: Juan Franciso Estrada comes into Saturday’s 2nd fight against WBC super flyweight champion Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez as a slight favorite in their rematch.

WBA 115-lb champion Estrada is the favorite at -150 to Chocolatito +125 for their bout at the American Airlines Center, in Dallas, Texas. It would be a big upset if the 33-year-old Chocolatito were to win, as he struggled badly against Carlos Cuadras and Srisaket Sor Rungvisai.

Gonzalez (50-2, 41 KOs) beat Estrada (41-2, 28 KOs) by a 12 round unanimous decision in 2012. In the eight years since the two fought, Estrada has a 15-1 record compared to Chocolatito’s 16-2.

DAZN putting on a great fight

This is one of the best fights that DAZN has ever scheduled, and it should be interesting. Shockingly, very few boxing fans are giving Chocolatito any chance of winning the fight.

During his best years, Chocolatito was a highly rated pound-for-pound fighter, winning world titles in four divisions.

It’s as if they didn’t see the first fight, and are completely unaware that Chocolatito won.

Both of them suffered losses to the powerful Srisaket Sor Rungvisai Estrada was able to avenge his loss, though, narrowly beating Rungvisai in their rematch in April 2019.

It was a fight that Rungvisai probably could have won if he’d fought aggressively from the start as he did in the first fight, but unmotivated until the second half, and then he tore into Estrada and dominated the last six rounds.

Interestingly, the winner of the Chocolatito vs. Estrada 2 fight will need to face Rungvisai, as he’s mandatory with the World Boxing Council.

Hearn expects a war

β€œCan you imagine this fight on Saturday being anything but a 12 round brutal war?” said Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn to the AK & Barak Show on the Estrada vs. Gonzalez 2 fight.

β€œI know someone can get stopped but it’s going to be all action, isn’t it?

“This fight is not just for hardcore fans, this fight is for boxing fans on Saturday. I just think we’re going to get something really, really special.”

As long as the casual boxing fans tune in on Saturday night to see the Estrada vs. Gonzalez 2 fight, they should be in for a treat.

It’s too bad the fight isn’t being packaged along with a super popular fighter like Gennadiy Golovkin or Canelo Alvarez. Years ago, several of Chocolatito’s fights were included on GGG’s cards.

After Chocolatito lost his two fights with Rungvisai, he was no longer included on Golovkin’s cards.

Hopefully, Estrada stands in the pocket and goes to war with Chocolatito like he did when the two fought in 2012. That was a great fight.

Gonzalez and Estrada recently shared the same card last year on October 23 in Mexico City. Chocolatito beat Israel Gonzalez by a 12 round unanimous decision, whereas Estrada stopped former WBC 115-lb champion Carlos Cuadras in the 11th round. Both fights were competitive and action-packed.
