By Charles Brun: Eddie Hearn let Tyson Fury know through the media today that his fight with Anthony Joshua will be taking place, and he’s got nowhere to run or hit. Joshua will be the “undisputed King” when he faces Fury in June.
What’s clear is Fury wants a tune-up fight in the worst way, but it’s too late for that. It bothers Fury that he’ll have been out of the ring for a year and a half by the time he faces Joshua, but he’s going to have to deal with it. This is war. You got to go into battle with whatever you have, and if it’s not enough for Fury, oh well.
Top Rank doesn’t have time to squeeze in a tune-up for Fury. The time for a tune-up was in 2020, and Fury missed his opportunity.
Fury (30-0-1, 21 KOs) has been full of complaints recently, griping about his year-long inactivity, and the slowness of the negotiations with Joshua (24-1, 22 KOs). He believes the fight won’t happen with Joshua because of the pandemic.
Some boxing fans believe that the pressure is starting to get to Fury now that this long-awaited fight with Joshua is getting closer. Fury is showing worry, and one can tell that he’s not a happy camper.
There’s a lot to lose for both Fury and Joshua in this fight, which is why we’re seeing Tyson stressing. A bad knockout loss for Fury against Joshua will hurt his career, putting him in a place where he’ll need to ask himself if he wants a second fight with AJ.
Hearn: Fury will get his wish
“Whatever. Myself, Anthony, we’ve been working tirelessly with our lawyers, and their lawyers to get this over the line. Standby, Tyson Fury is going to get his wish.
“We’re in, nowhere to run and nowhere to hide,” said Eddie Hearn to Boxing Social in reacting to Fury saying negotiations are no closer now than they were a year ago.
Hearn is confident the negotiations will be done soon for the Joshua-Fury fight, and you have to believe him. There’s a lot of things to work out with a fight of this nature, so it’s not a big surprise that it’s taking a little longer than expected to get it done.
Top Rank has Fury for two more fights, and they’re not going to use up one of them by letting him take on a fluff opponent for a tune-up. Fury is going to have to calm his nerves the best he can. Maybe if Fury thinks happy thoughts he’ll have a better outlook on the Joshua fight.
“The undisputed King is going to be Anthony Joshua, and I promise you that and this fight will happen. This fight is on. You’ll hear something soon, trust me, stand by,” said Hearn.
“As I said, Tyson Fury, we’ll see what happens. He will not beat Anthony Joshua,” said Hearn.
