By Chris Williams: Errol ‘The Truth’ Spence (27-0, 21 KOs) quieted his doubters in looking in top form in beating Danny Garcia (36-3, 21 KOs) by a dominating 12 round unanimous decision on Saturday night.
The scores were fair with the judges scoring: 116-112, 116-112, and 117-111. Chris Williams had it a tad bit wider at 118-110. Spence gave Garcia a couple of mercy rounds late, and the timing of that saved Danny from being knocked out.

Apart from rounds nine and ten, Spence was in control throughout the contest in outworking Garcia, in each round in their fight at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Spence seemed to ease off at the beginning of the championship rounds, and this allowed Garcia, 32, to have a modicum amount of success. Errol came back strong in the 11th, battering Garcia with powerful punches to the head and body to resume his donation.
Spence could have finished Danny if he wanted to, but he looked like he wanted to save him his dignity by not pushing for the KO. We saw the same thing from Spence in his fights with Mikey Garcia and Shawn Porter. He appeared to take it easy on them.
Spence was firing on all eight cylinders with the way he was attacking Garcia the entire fight, and beating him up. No one had ever beaten up Garcia the way that Spence did tonight.
Danny Garcia disappeared in the 11th and 12th
Spence really poured it on in the 12th in unloading on Garcia, causing him to shut down until the last ten seconds of the round. Danny landed some hard punches at the end, but it was too little too late.
Garcia should have fought his heart out in rounds 11 and 12, but he looked like he was afraid to fight aggressively.
Had Garcia emptied his tank n trying to knockout Spence, he might have run into something, and gotten hurt. So Danny chose to go out like a lamb and not take a big risk of walking into something.
Errol, 30, was able to control the shorter 5’8″ Garcia with his jab from the outside, which gave him problems.
The defeat for Garcia pretty much ends his hopes of winning another world title at 147. At this point, Garcia needs to seriously consider moving back down to 140 or possibly trying to make something happen at 154. Danny isn’t young enough to spend years waiting for a world title to open up at 147 that he can snatch up.
