By Barry Holbrook: IBF/WBA 118-pound champion Naoya ‘Monster’ Inoue (20-0, 17 KOs) was too good for his highly ranked opponent Jason Moloney (21-2, 18 KOs) with him knocking the Australian fighter out in the seventh round on Saturday night in ‘The Bubble’ at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Inoue was hitting the terrified-looking Moloney at will during the contest with virtually combining back at him. In the sixth round, Inoue dropped Moloney, who barely made it out of the round. You could tell that Moloney wouldn’t make it through the next round. He was too hurt.

In the seventh, Inoue knocked Moloney down with a peach of a right hand to the head. The fight was then halted. The time of the stoppage was at 2:59 of round seven.

I think I speak for most boxing fans when I say it’s time for Top Rank to let Inoue take on WBO bantamweight champion John Riel Casimero.

In early action in tonight’s Naoya Inoue vs. Jason Moloney card, undefeated super featherweight Robson Conceição (15-0, 7 KOs) defeated Luis Coria (12-4, 7 KOs) by a surprisingly close 10 round unanimous decision on Saturday night in ‘The Bubble’ at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The scores were 94-93, 95-92, and 95-92. Boxing News 24 had Conceição winning 95-92.

The 2016 Olympian Conceição was knocked down in the second round after getting nailed by a big shot from the powerful Coria.

What also hurt Conceição was him losing points in rounds two and four for repeated low blows. He was trying to aim above the belt, but Coria’s movement continually caused his shots to stray low.

Naoya Inoue battles Jason Moloney

In the main event tonight, IBF/WBA bantamweight champion Naoya ‘Monster’ Inoue (19-0, 16 KOs) will be making a title defense against the dangerous Jason Moloney (21-2, 19 KOs).

There’s a lot of interest from boxing fans in Inoue’s fight with Moloney, as they want to see if the Japanese star can KO a fighter with a lot of talent.

In Inoue’s last fight against former four-division world champion Nonito donair last November, he was unable t knock him out. That turned out to be a very, very hard fight for Inoue.

There are many questions about whether Inoue can do the same thing to Moloney that he’s been doing to his other opponents. Moloney doesn’t pack the same type of power that Inoue’s last opponent Donaire, but he’s still very talented and one of the best fighters in the 118-lb division.

Inoue suffered a lot of facial injuries in his win over Donaire, and we’re going to see if Moloney can do damage as well. The reason Donaire was able to mess up Inoue’s face is that he was able to stay in there long enough to land a lot of his big shots.
