Former HBOPPV boxing head and 2018 Women’s Boxing Manager of the Year Mark Taffet, through his company Mark Taffet Media LLC, has entered into an agreement with 2019 Boxing World Championships heavyweight gold medal winner Danielle Perkins and her SBG Management team to fulfill Perkins’ dream of becoming world heavyweight champion. Perkins registered an impressive, exciting victory in her August 20 pro debut when she knocked down and unanimously defeated previously unbeaten Monika Harrison at Kronk Gym in Detroit.

Perkins, a world-class athlete standing 6’0” tall and weighing 197 pounds, was a standout collegiate basketball player at St. John’s University where she led the team in rebounding and blocked shots including two trips to the NCAA Tournament, followed by a professional basketball career in Europe. After an automobile accident left her critically injured and temporarily paralyzed, Danielle underwent a rigorous rehabilitation program for five years which included teaching herself to walk again and then in 2014 remarkably dedicated herself to a new sport – boxing – in which she quickly demonstrated great skill. She won the USA National Championships, and then as a member of Team USA won a bronze medal at the 2018 World Championships and the gold medal at the 2019 World Championships in Russia, becoming the first American man or woman to win a world championship since Claressa Shields won the gold medal at the world championships in 2016 prior to winning her second Olympic gold medal later that year in Rio. Perkins had her sights set on the 2020 Olympics, but when those games were sidelined due to the Covid-19 pandemic Danielle turned pro under the tutelage of trainer James Cooper.

Taffet — who through his Mark Taffet Media firm manages boxers including two-time Olympic gold medal winner and current undefeated three-weight-division champion Claressa Shields, first Scottish female champion Hannah Rankin, current WBC jr middleweight interim champion Patricia Berghult, undefeated super middleweight standout Vladimir Shishkin, undefeated junior welterweight standout Shohjahon Ergashev, and Iceland’s only pro boxer Kolbeinn Kristinsson – will work closely with SBG Management principals James Cooper and NFL Pro Bowl lineman Trent Williams to guide Perkins to her dream of becoming world heavyweight champion.

“I am thrilled to be working with Danielle Perkins and her team at SBG Management,” said Mark Taffet. “Danielle is a tremendous talent, a true world-class athlete who has shown incredible
perseverance through a years-long rehabilitation from a terrible auto accident and eventually winning the Amateur World Championships in 2019. I believe she will not only win the heavyweight championship as a pro, but could also become the greatest heavyweight champion in women’s boxing history. I look forward to bringing my experience and expertise to her and her team to facilitate that journey.”

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to partner with Mark Taffet to fulfill my destiny as the Heavyweight champ,” said Danielle Perkins. “I am thankful for my coach James Cooper and SBG Management’s Trent Williams for their belief and patience over the course of the last five years. My goals are to unify the heavyweight division and be a big, strong role model who empowers young women to persevere and realize their dreams. I look forward to making waves quickly. My time is now and I want that heavyweight title!”.
