Gary Russell Jr challenges Tank Davis and Devin Haney to face him

By Chris Williams: Gary Russell Jr is turning attention to Devin Haney and Gervonta’ Tank Davis after having no luck getting a fight against WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford.

Russell Jr says he’s interested in facing WBC lightweight champion Haney (24-0, 15 KOs), but he won’t take the fight for $1.5 million that Devin supposedly offered him.

Gary Jr wants that number to be bumped up to $2 million. Russell states that he would be willing to face Crawford for $1.5M because he just wants to put hands on him after he made a remark about wanting to break his neck.

Gary revealed that he sees Crawford as a sucker after he failed to retaliate when he punched him in the mouth years ago.

To get that fight done, Russell Jr. is advising Devin to talk to his promoter Eddie Hearn to get him to agree to it because he’s not answering his phone. Hearn might not want to risk putting the 21-year-old Haney in with a seasoned professional like Russell Jr though because he could lose.

Haney can’t punch, and his hand speed is at the medium level.

Russell Jr would have fought Crawford for free

Devin, you’re trying to say that I’m ducking you? You’re wild as s***, man,” said Russell Jr on social media. “Nobody is ducking you. ‘Yeah, I’ll fight you for the 1.5, this that and the third.

“For the fans, don’t let these people bamboozle you. That number 1.5, that’s what I was going to take for Terence because that s*** was personal. He was saying he wanted to break my neck and all this other goofy s***.

“Yeah, that’s personnel. I would have taken that number of Terence. And I would have fought Terence for nothing. I just wanted to put my hands on him.

“When it comes to you, shorty, that number doesn’t make sense. With you, it’s business, and with Terence, it’s personal. It’s a big difference. Are you saying I was ducking you? That’s crazy.

You were the first one that I was trying to sink my teeth into. You’re going about acting like you’re running s***, but you also got to answer to Eddie [Hearn]. We already tried to holler at Eddie.

Tell Eddie to pick the phone up. You’re acting like you’re pulling all the strings. You’re not pulling the mother-f**** strings. You still got to go back and report to Eddie. Tell Eddie to pick the phone up. We already tried to reach out to him.

But this 1.5, your counteroffer, which I originally tried to offer you before the Coronavirus, don’t try and bamboozle and food poison the people, man. Tell them to put another .5 on it, and I’ll beat your son’s a**,” said Russell Jr to Devin Haney’s dad, Bill.

It’s pretty obvious that Crawford and his promoters at Top Rank don’t want any part of Gary Russell Jr, and that’s not something that’s going to change.

Gary slams Tank Davis

“Tank, get the f*** out of here. Get the f*** out of here, shorty,” Russell continued. I saw the little interview you did where they asked you about me, and you said something like, ‘Gary is too small. He’s too small in structure. He’s too this and too that.’

“I will f*** you up. You see how he goes off and goes crazy on everybody else, but I call him all types of b****, all types of suckers, all types of punks, and everything else.

“You don’t see that same type of energy coming my way because he knows for real that this s*** is for real. He’s talking about how I’m too small, and my numbers don’t sell and this, that and the third. Stop this s***, man.

“I’m hoping the fans aren’t getting bamboozled by this crazy a** punk s*** that these people are doing in the sport, talking about we won’t sell. We can fight in the DMV, slim. We can fight at the Redskins stadium, whatever you want to call it.

It’s interesting that Tank Davis wants no part of Russell Jr because he just fought a lesser guy in 38-year-old Yuriorkis Gamboa last December.

For Tank (23-0, 22 KOs) to be dismissive of a fight against Russell Jr, that could be a hint that he views him as a threat.

Russell’s hand speed, combination punching, and boxing skills would be a problem for Davis. There’s little chance that Russell would make the same mistakes as the opposition that Tank has been fighting lately.

Russell: Fans don’t want to see Tank vs. Santa Cruz

“Anybody that is anybody is going to be in there, and it’s going to sell out. You know it, and the fans know it. Stop this s***. As a matter of fact, to keep it 100, man. To the real fans that support Mr. Gary Russell Jr, let’s keep this s*** 100. Don’t Nobody want to see this Tank vs. Leo Santa Cruz fight?

“Don’t nobody wants to see that s***. If you want to support Mr. Gary Russell Jr, don’t even watch that s***. It’ll be back on TV in another two to three days anyway, man. That s*** is crazy. Don’t Nobody want to see that fight?

“People want to see me beat your a**. People want to see me beat Leo’s a**. Don’t Nobody want to see you fight each other? Stop this s***, man,” said Russell Jr.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say that boxing fans don’t want to see the Tank Davis vs. Leo Santa Cruz match, which will be taking place on October 24. There is some interest from people.

But what you can say is this fight will probably do extremely poor pay-per-view numbers on Showtime, as it’s not a fight that fans are asking for. Leo, 31, is looking shopworn, and he looked horrible in his debut against Miguel Flores last November.

The World Boxing Association sanctioned the Santa Cruz-Flores fight for their WBA Super World 130-lb title despite Flores having lost two out of his last four fights. With Santa Cruz facing such a poor opponent, how could he not win the vacant WBA title?

Terence Crawford has gone quiet

“That s*** is crazy, and you see Terence’s punk a** ain’t saying nothing, Russell continued. You see, he got completely quiet. Now he’s trying to act like he’s fighting other people and all that. He’s a b****.

“I just wanted to let the fans know. Stop this s*** y’all. Mother-f**** has got to have a sense of integrity to be somewhat honorable about themselves.

“All that, ‘Too small;’ Tank, I will beat your a**. Bill [Haney] put another point five on it, and I’ll beat your son’s [Devin] a** too, and tell Eddie to answer the phone. Leo, you better keep my name out of your mouth.

“I dare you to say something about me wanting to fight Terence Crawford. When I wanted to fight your punk a**, you were a cold sucker. You didn’t do anything. You saw that I had my son on one of my videos. I’m trying to raise my boy to become a young man.

“If somebody puts their arms around me when I get older because they want to fight my son, my son better beat their a**. My son better say, ‘You know what, daddy? Damn that; I’m going to fight him.

“I don’t care what’s going to happen. I’m going to fight him, and give everything I got.’ F*** that, you’re a b***. Stop playing with me, Leo,” Russell said.

It’s time for Russell Jr to give up on Crawford because he’s never going to fight him. Crawford wants to face Kell Brook next, and then after that, Manny Pacquiao and Errol Spence Jr.

The chances of Crawford ever getting a fight against the 41-year-old Pacquiao are so bad that it’s laughable and forlorn.

It’s beneath Crawford to keep mentioning wanting to fight Pacquiao because it’s so obvious that there’s no interest in Manny’s part.

Russell Jr talks Spence vs. Garcia

“Danny and Errol, that’s going to be a good jump,” Russell Jr said of the Errol Spence Jr vs. Danny Garcia fight. “I think Errol might get Danny, but Danny is going to give him everything you want, though.

Image: Gary Russell Jr challenges Tank Davis and Devin Haney to face him

“Danny has been developing and evolving as a fighter. In his last couple of fights, Danny has been looking good. His timing has been on, and he’s been on point. That’s a good jump to look forward to.

“I just wanted to come on and let the fans know what it is and address these dudes accordingly, because this s*** is crazy man,” said Russell Jr. “The sport of boxing is being watered down.

“The best is supposed to compete against the best, and the fans are the ones that are getting tricked and bamboozled because the best aren’t fighting the best. You’ve got these guys; it’s a popularity contest now.

“And it’s not about talent. It’s about whoever is the most popular by doing the most goofy s***. You’ve got people out here that see them and know them, and that’s what makes these guys popular and exciting.

Errol Spence Jr and Danny Garcia will be fighting on November 21 on FOX pay-per-view. The fight will bring in respectable numbers on PPV, but nothing out of this world. It’s not that great of a fight, unfortunately.

Garcia has already lost to Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter at 147, so he’s not someone that even deserves a title shot.

Gary Russell Jr ready to beat the top fighters

“I’m a real man. I’m not going to sell my soul, shuck, and jive, and be someone that I’m not,” said Gary.

“What I am is a real fighter, a real man, and I want to beat all these guys’ a*** that I’m talking about that I want to fight, point blank period.

YouTube video

“The real fans, the Gary Russell Jr fans, don’t Nobody want to see the Tank vs. Leo fight. Don’t nobody want to watch that s***? Watch that s*** two or three days later.

“Don’t even pay for that s***. F*** that unless they really want to fight me. That’s how I’m feeling,” said Russell Jr.

All the fighters that Gary is mentioning, Haney, Crawford, Tank, and Santa Cruz, likely won’t fight him. If Hearn isn’t showing interest in matching Haney against Russell, that tells you the fight will never get made.

None of these guys are realistic options for fighting Russell Jr in the future, and it would be better for him to focus on the guys in his own division at 126.
