Welcome to Part 7 of the Boxing Survey Series. In this edition we shift our attention towards the historically rich Light Heavyweight division in an attempt to rank the greatest Light Heavyweight boxers of all time.

That is what this is all about. The Boxing Survey Series is simply a good faith attempt to rank the greatest boxers of All Time. There were 24 volunteers who participated in the Survey, with each being required to supply and submit nine total lists. Each participant provided a Top 15 list for each of the traditional eight weight classes – flyweight, bantamweight, featherweight, lightweight, welterweight, middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight, and each participant also submitted a Top 25 list of the all time best boxers during the long rich history of the sport. No ties were allowed, just straightforward lists numbered sequentially. The participants are those who generally express great interest in the realm of learning more about the wonderful history of professional boxing. In an attempt to help create an element of surprise, the scoring system was not revealed to the participants during the period when the open survey was underway.

The current Light Heavyweight limit of 175 pounds was established in 1909. This is one of the more popular weight classes in professional boxing and it has a very deep rich history. A lot of boxing legends have spent time competing in the Light Heavyweight division. Among some of the outstanding Hall of Fame boxers who fought at 175, we have Archie Moore, Michael Spinks, Billy Conn, Tommy Loughran, and Ezzard Charles just to name a few. More recently the division has included champions such as Roy Jones Jr, Bernard Hopkins, Dariusz Michaelczewski, and Andre Ward. Currently Artur Beterbiev is the reigning unified WBC/IBF Light Heavyweight world champion, Dmirty Bivol is the current WBA champ, and the WBO title is, at the moment, vacant.

So who is the greatest Light Heavyweight of all time? And who are the Top 10 Light Heavyweights in all of boxing history? This survey attempts to provide an answer to both of those questions, while also exploring a deeper look into historical Light Heavyweight rankings.

This edition of Rummy’s Corner is Part 7 of 9 in the new Boxing Survey Series, where the discussion this time will involve some of the greatest Light Heavyweights of all time, while examining some of the Light Heavyweight Survey data.
