The former two-division world champion Frampton knocked Traynor down in round six with a body shot.

In the 7th round, Frampton tagged Traynor with a hard left that caused him to turn away.  The fight was then halted. Referee Michael Alvarez stopped the fight at 1:00 of round seven.  Traynor didn’t want anymore, and you can’t blame him.

Frampton pleased with win

“I”m happy to get the win obviously, but I was far from my best,” said Frampton afterward. “People talk about me doing the rounds. I don’t think it’s going to harm me doing the rounds. If I had the chance to take him out in the first round, I would have done it.”

“He’s a tough kid. I had to make sure that complacency didn’t creep in at all. It was a potential banana skin here. There was no pressure on him. He had a decent game plan in stepping back and not rushing things.

“Once I started landing my jab, I hurt him a few times with my jab, and then the body shots in the second half of the fight.”

“It was a better opponent to prepare for Herring than the original opponent because I think he was around my height or a little bit shorter. The dimensions are similar. I know I need to be a lot better for Herring, but it was good to get the round done. My hands are fine. There are no issues.”

Michael Conlan TKOs Sofiane Takoucht

Two-time Olympian Michael Conlan (14-0, 8 KOs) smashed France’s Sofiane Takoucht (35-5-1, 13 KOs) in stopping him in the 10th round.

Conlan hurt 34-year-old Takoucht in the 10th round with a flurry of heavy shots that resulted in referee Steve Gray stepping in toe halt the fight. The time of the stoppage was at 1:54 of round 10.

Michael Conlan shines

Conlan came close to being disqualified, though, as he was penalized for throwing low blows in rounds four and five.

Carl Frampton is returning to the ring tonight in a stay busy match against British domestic level non-contender Darren Traynor at the York Hall in Bethnal Green in London, England.

It’s the last stop for the 33-year-old former two-division world champion Frampton before he fights WBO super featherweight champion, Jamel Herring, in the fall.

“I like to hit them on the sweet spot,” said Conlan afterward in talking about his low blows. “I’m experienced enough in the fight game to know that I can just go ahead.

“I know that when I fight for a world title [against Angelo Leo], I’ll be world champion. I didn’t want to rush him like Josh Warrington. So I broke him down and took him out in the last round,” said Conlan.

“I had to make sure that we readjusted it a little bit,” said trainer Adam Smith on Conlan’s numerous low blows thrown during the fight. The first one was low because he threw it low.

“The second one was low because he pulled his head down. It was strategic. You had to adjust by head-hunting because there was such a long time in the fight to go.”

“A world title fight? Now,” said Booth about his belief that Conlan is ready to challenge for the vacant WBO 122-lb title now.

“He’s ready now. When that opponent fell through the other week for the WBO belt and it popped on my Twitter, the first thing I did was look at the date and realized that we’d run out of time to through his name in the hat. But I would take it tomorrow,” said Booth.

Archie Sharp decisions Jeff Ofori

In tonight’s undercard, lightweight Archie Sharp (19-0, 9 KOs)  defeated Jeff Ofori (10-3-1, 3 KOs) by a razor-close 10 round points decision.  Sharp got the nod by a 96-95 score.

This was one of those subjective matches where the lower looked like, the better fighter, but the A-side guy Shrtp got the win. It would be a good idea for Ofori to be given a rematch, but don’t count on it happening. It would be too risky.

Troy Williamson edges Harry Scarff

In another thrill per minute fight, undefeated IBF European junior middleweight champion knockout artist Troy Williamson (15-0-1, 11 KOs) beat the always tough Harry Scarff (8-2, 1 KO) by an exciting 10 round unanimous decision.

The judges scored it 97-94, 96-94, 96-95. Boxing News 24 gave it to the bigger puncher Williamson by a 97-94.

Paddy Donovan destroys Des Newton

Welterweight prospect Paddy Paddy Donovan (4-0, 3 KOs) made short work of the over-matched journeyman Des Newton (8-16, 2 KOs) in stopping him in the first round of a scheduled six-round bout.

Donovan, 21, knocked down the hapless Newton twice in the first round before referee Marcus McDonnell halted the contest. The time of the stoppage was at 1:31 of round one.

It’s time that Donovan’s management starts thinking about putting him with better opposition because he’s not getting much out of fighting the low-level fighters that he’s being put in with.
