The unbeaten WBO featherweight champion Stevenson (13-0, 7 KOs) will be going up to 130 for a fight in the super featherweight division against Caraballo (13-1-2, 9 KOs).

This match at 130 could be a one-off for Shakur, as he’ll be returning to the 126-pound division to look to face IBF featherweight champion Josh Warrington. That’s a fight that both Stevenson and Warrington both want, and it’s going to be interesting to see which of the two prevails.

Caraballo is a little tune-up/stay busy fight for the 22-year-old Shakur to get him back in action after the lockdown. The fight action begins at 7:00 p.m. ET/4:00 p.m. PT on ESPN and ESPN & Deportes.

This fight will give a glimpse of the 2016 Olympic silver medalist Stevenson’s ability to float between weight classes.

Robeisy Ramirez on the undercard

What’s interesting about this card is the two-time Olympic gold medalist Robeisy Ramirez is fighting on the undercard of Stevenson, a fighter that he beat in 2016. Ramirez’s stock has dropped off since he turned pro after his defeat in his first fight.

Stevenson testing the waters at 130

Ideally, Shakur wants to be able to fight guys at 126 and 130 to take advantage of the opportunities that present themselves. But if he struggles to beat the Puerto Rican fighter Caraballo on Tuesday night, then he might need to re-think his plans on moving between the two weight classes.

One other thing this fight will show is whether Stevenson is the “next Floyd Mayweather,” as some boxing fans believe him to be. If Shakur is the next Floyd Jr, then he should be able to crush Caraballo without too many problems and look good in doing so.

“That’s a fight that needs spectators and I know that the promoters over in the UK are working towards that,” said Top Rank promoter Bob Arum about a unification between Stevenson and Josh Warrington at 126.

“We’re working towards that, absolutely, whether it’s going to be in the States or in the UK, we want that fight —the Warrington fight — to happen. I promised that to Shakur.”

It’s not a given that Stevenson, 22, will return to the featherweight division after his fight with Caraballo. As much as Stevenson would like to fight IBF 126-lb champion Warrington (30-0, 7 KOs), there are more opportunities for him at 130. Arum promotes Miguel Berchelt, Oscar Valdez, Jamel Herring, and Carl Frampton.

Shakur can speed up his rise to the top

Those are appealing matches that Shakur can take in moving up to super-featherweight. Whether Arum wants to stick Stevenson in with the likes of Berchelt, Valdez, Frampton, and Herring yet are unknown. With the Mayweather comparisons that Arum and ESPN are making, it doesn’t make any sense for Shakur not to be fighting those guys now.

They’re all considered a level above Warrington in the talent department, and Shakur can speed up his rise to the top by beating them. If Stevenson beats Berchelt and Oscar Valdez in 2021, he could be a star by next year. It’s hard to fathom how popular Shakur can be next year if he beat Berchelt, Valdez, and Herring.

Top Rank is taking things slowly with the talented 26-year-old Cuban fighter Robeisy Ramirez after he was shockingly beaten by a four-round split decision in his first professional bout by Adan Gonzales (5-2-2, 2 KOs) last August in Philadelphia. Gonzales came in there with a basic plan of outworking Ramirez, and it worked to perfection. He stayed busy, won a close decision.
