By Dan Ambrose: Leo Santa Cruz says a fight between him and Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis is possible but still not 100% at this point, but they think they can make it. This would be for the summer. The negotiations are said to be “advanced.” This is a fight that Santa Cruz has wanted for a while now, and it looks like it’s about to happen.

Santa Cruz vs. Tank Davis will be a big fight if they can get the negotiations completed.

In the meantime, Santa Cruz (37-1-1, 19 KOs) wants Tank Davis (23-0, 22 KOs) to stay out of trouble. Tank was recently involved in some outside of the ring issues. Davis will need to take it easy so that he doesn’t foil would be the biggest fight of his career against Santa Cruz.

There will be a lot of great fights available to the winner of the Davis vs. Santa Cruz fight at 135. Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney, Vasiliy Lomachenko and Teofimo Lopez are some of the opponents for the winner of the Santa Cruz vs. Davis fight.

Santa Cruz says if the fight with Tank doesn’t get made, then he wants to face WBA featherweight champion Gary Russell Jr. (31-1-1, 18 KOs)

Santa Cruz says Tank Davis fight is not 100%

“A fight against Gervonta Davis is a fight that we think we could make, but don’t know yet,” said Santa Cruz to Fighthype. “We’re not 100% sure, but if not, I’ll fight Gary Russell. I’m not scared of him. I’ll fight him anytime, Since I was in the amateurs, I’ve wanted to fight him.

“People just think I’m scared but it’s not up to me. It’s up to the promoters. I’m in the gym training getting ready for whoever. Tank, stay out of trouble, and we’ll get the fight made and make it happen,” said Santa Cruz.

Well, if Santa Cruz takes on Gervonta Davis, boxing fans won’t be able to accuse him of being scared. He’d be showing a lot of courage in moving up to 135 to take on Tank Davis for his WBA lightweight title.

That would be a fight in which Santa Cruz would be going after his fourth division world title. Winning that title would shock the world because few boxing fans believe Santa Cruz has the talent to beat Davis.

The timing of Santa Cruz fighting the 25-year-old Davis isn’t the greatest, considering that he’s coming off of an off performance against Yuriorkis Gamboa on December 28 in Atlanta.

Although Davis stopped Gamboa in the 12th, fans think he should have knocked him out a lot sooner due to him having suffered a torn Achilles in the second round. Davis’ conditioning might ave factored into the fight making it to the 12th.
