By Kenneth Friedman: Deontay Wilder weighed in at 219 1/2 pounds for Friday’s weigh-in for his title defense of his WBC heavyweight belt against Luis ‘King Kong’ Ortiz on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This is 4 lbs lighter than the 223 lbs Wilder (41-0-1, 40 KOs) weighed for his last title defense against Dominic Breazeale on May 18 of this year.

The Wilder vs. Ortiz 2 card will be televised on Fox Sports PBC pay-per-view.

Luis Ortiz (31-1, 26 KOs) weighed in at 236 1/2 pounds, and looked considerably trimmer than in his first fight against Wilder last year on March 3, 2018. Ortiz lost that fight by a 10th round knockout, but he was competitive every step of the way.

King Kong Ortiz’s weight the lowest since 2015

Ortiz’s weight is the lowest for him in four years since his fight against Byron Polley in June 2015. King Kong Ortiz weighed 230 lbs. for that fight, and he stopped Polley in the 1st round.

Wilder: I will have NO MERCY on Ortiz

“This time around, he knows what it’s going to be. He knows what happened the first time, and he knows what’s going to happen the second time,” said Wilder about Ortiz at after the weigh-in. “He looked good though. As the champion, you want your opponent to look good, and come in shape.

“So come Saturday night, I will have NO MERCY on him when I do what I do. We know what’s coming, but we don’t know when it comes. But when it comes, bam, baby. Goodnight. One thing for sure, just don’t blink, baby. It’s going to be an amazing fight,” said Wilder.
