Dave Allen wants to challenge Daniel Dubois for British title

By Tim Royner: Dave Allen states that he wants to challenge British heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois for his title. The 27-year-old Allen (17-5-2, 14 KOs) has taken a few months off to clear his head following his 10th round stoppage loss to David Price on July 20, and he’s found a new love for boxing.

Allen (17-5-2, 14 KOs) showed up at Josh Warrington’s fight tonight with the idea of having a conversation with promoter Frank Warren about taking on the 22-year-old Dubois (13-0, 12 KOs).

Dave Allen: I want to fight Daniel Dubois

“I want to fight Daniel Dubois for the British heavyweight championship,” said Allen to IFL TV. “Nobody wants to fight him. I want to fight him, and I like him, and I think he’s an exceptional young talent. And I couldn’t care less what he is. I feel like I’ve turned the corner.

“I feel like I’m 18, 19 again. That’s what I want. I want the Dubois fight. I want it. Maybe I’m not good enough. Maybe I’m too small. That could all be true, but I feel like I’m back to where I was when I was a kid,” said Allen.

There’s not much for Dubois to gain in defending his British title against Allen, and it could be embarrassingly bad. That would be a MAJOR step backwards for the 6’5,” 240 pound Dubois to defend his title against Allen. That’s a fight that would have made sense a couple of years ago, but not now.

Dubois should now be fighting world class contenders if he can get any of them to agree to fight him. He’s not someone that the top contenders are lining up to fight right now, especially with the way he obliterated his last 4 opponents. In Dubois’ last four bouts, he’s destroyed these fighters:

  • Ebenezer Tetteh
  • Nathan Gorman
  • Richard Lartey
  • Razvan Cojanu

The British Boxing Board of control likely won’t give the green light for a fight between Dubois and Allen, because it’s too much of a mismatch.

Would fans want to see Dubois vs. Allen?

Dubois vs. Allen wouldn’t sell right now. The boxing public wouldn’t buy into seeing a dreadful mismatch like that. There are guys that would b perfect or Allen to fight, but Dubois isn’t one of them.

Allen was completely over-matched against David Price. He was dominated from start to finish, and it appeared that he didn’t try that hard. Allen admitted that he was intimidated by the 6’8″ Price. If Allen was intimidated by Price, what is he going to do when he gets inside the ring with the young knockout artist Dubois? Price would probably be over-matched against Dubois as well. That would be a match-up for Price to go up against Dubois right now.

Had Allen beaten Price, he would have gotten a nice payday fight against Alexander Povetkin. That was a fight that Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn wanted to put together. But with Allen’s loss, he’s back at square one.
