Haney: I could beat everyone Lomachenko has beaten

By Chris Williams:  Devin Haney isn’t impressed with the resume of Vasiliy Lomachenko, and he feels that there’s not name on there that he couldn’t beat as well. Haney (23-0, 15 KOs) is ready to fight ‘No-Menchenko’, and he’s just waiting for him to give him the shot.

If Lomachenkko doesn’t want to face him, then he needs to give up his WBA/WBO/WBC lightweight titles and get out of the way, because Haney isn’t going to wait forever to get his hands on those straps. He wants to win the titles, and move up to 140 to take over that weight class.

Lomachenko doesn’t have the same goals as Haney in going up to 140 despite the fact that he’s the same size as him. Loma plans moving back down to his old division at super featherweight if he’s successful in winning the IBF lightweight title from the winner of the Richard Commey vs Teofimo Lopez fight.

Devin Haney: I can beat everyone Lomachenko beat

“I want the belts. I’m in the 135-lb division to be a world champion, and before I move to 140, I want to be a world champion at 135,” said Haney to Sky Sports News. “What fighters could we say [that Lomachenko has faced]. He fought [Guillermo] Rigondeaux when Rigondeaux was coming up in weight.

“He came up two weight classes [to fight Lomachenko]. Luke Campbell was a good fight, because he was bigger, and it was a fight that made sense. He went in there, and lost rounds [to Campbell]. And he [Lomachenko] fought Jorge Linares, and Linares dropped him. I just feel like every guy that he beat, I could beat too. There’s no guys on there that I feel that I couldn’t beat,” said Haney about his belief he can beat everyone Lomachenko has faced as a professional.

The fans need to judge for themselves whether Haney could beat everyone that Lomachenko has fought. He’s only fought a handful of guys that would considered a good opponent for Haney. Here’s the top guys that Lomachenko has fought:

  • Gary Russell Jr.
  • Orlando Salido
  • Nicholas Walters
  • Luke Campbell
  • Jason Sosa
  • Anthony Crolla
  • Jose Pedraza
  • Jorge Linares
  • Guillermo Rigondeaux
  • Roman Martinez
  • Miguel Marriaga

Most of those guys are fighters that would lack the size, power and talent to handle the fire power from Haney. Lomachenko lost to Salido when he was near the end of his career. In looking back at that fight, it’s impossible to imagine Salido being able to do the same things he did against Lomachenko in a fight with Haney. The speed, power and the jabs from Haney would have kept Salido bottled up on the outside in the same way Zaur Abdullaev was against Devin in their fight on September 13. Haney stopped Abdullaev in the 4th round.

Haney not offended fighting on KSI vs. Logan Paul undercard

“I feel that card is good for boxing, because it brings a whole new crowd, and a lot of fans to the sport of boxing, and Devin Haney, especially the younger crowd,” said Haney about him fighting on the KSI-Paul card on November 9. “KSI and Logan Paul have the younger generation.

“We can’t be stuck in the past. We’ve got to elevate, and bring on new things. It’s the new thing right now,” said Haney about social media. “He [Ryan Garcia] didn’t have all those followers until he signed with Golden Boy. Golden Boy helped get him those followers by building him,” said Haney.
