By Sean Jones: Adrien Broner and Ivan Redkach have a fight in the works for the fall, according to Mike Coppinger. The fight will likely take place at welterweight. Broner, 29, is looking to come back from a loss to Manny Pacquiao, and he’s in need of a victory.

This is not a slam dunk win for Broner by any stretch of the imagination. Redkach, 5’10 1/2″, is bigger, stronger and fighting at a higher level now than Broner.

Broner hasn’t won a fight in two years

The former four division world champion Broner (33-4-1, 24 KOs) hasn’t won a fight in two years since 2017, and that was a controversial 10 round decision over Adrian Granados. Broner’s career is sinking right now, and he’s now to the point where he’s facing second tier fighter Redkach (23-4-1, 18 KOs) in hopes of turning things around.

Broner’s last clear victory came in April 2016 when he beat Ashley Theophane by a ninth round knockout. Since that fight, Broner has lost to Pacquiao and Mikey Garcia, a 12 round draw against Jessie Vargas, and a controversial win over Granados. Those fights showed that Broner isn’t capable of fighting against the elite level fighters at 140 and 147.

One can argue that Broner’s should be 0-3-1 in his last four fights. Some boxing fans think Broner is shot at this point,. However, these are guys he likely would have lost to even earlier in his career. Broner doesn’t belong at light welterweight or at welterweight. He’s too slow and weak.

Redkach looks impressive at 147

Redkach recently moved up to 147, and it coming off of a sixth round knockout win over former two division world champion Devon Alexander.
