By Trevor McIntyre: British heavyweight prospect Daniel Dubois (11-0, 10 KOs) stayed unbeaten with an unimpressive 4th round knockout win over the big 6’5″ Richard Lartey (14-2, 11 KOs) on Saturday night at the Wembley Arena in London, England.

Dubois, 21, knocked down Lartey with a hard right hand to the head in the fourth round. After the 27-year-old Ghanaian Lartey got back to his feet, the referee Robert Williams then waived it off. The time of the stoppage was at 1:50 of round four.

Next up for Dubois could be Joe Joyce. He was ringside tonight to seemingly scout out the 6’5″ Dubois, who the British Boxing Board of Control [BBBofC] ordered him to fight. It was unclear until recently whether the two would face each other, but it’s now looking like they’ll be fighting next. Dubois is going to need to fight A LOT better against Joyce than he did tonight against Lartey, because he was hurt at least 3, possibly 4 times in the fight. Lartey lacked the talent to finish the job each time he buzzed Dubois big shots.

In the opening round, Dubois hurt Lartey with a big right to the head after trapping against the ropes. Dubois lacked the polish to finish off the hard Lartey. If Lartey hadn’t caught Dubois with a big shot of his own, he could done the job on him in the first round. Dubois looked tired after just the first round. When he went back to his corner, he was breathing heavily.

In the second round, Lartey hurt Dubois with a solid right hand to the head that had the 21-year-old reeling big time.

Lartey was doing a lot of clinching in the third. Later ni the round, Lartey caught Dubois with a big right hand that hurt him again.

In the fourth round, the 238 pound Dubois went after Lartey, hitting him with big combinations. Lartey forgot about his defense while trying to trade shots, and he got nailed by a hard right hand that hurts him and puts him down. Lartey made it up to his feet on shaky legs, but the referee chose to stop it.

All in all, this wasn’t a good fight for Dubois. He’s still very green as a fighter, and not nearly ready for the likes of Joe Joyce. Dubois isn’t ready for a heavyweight like Joyce yet. Dubois’ management needs to think twice before putting him in with Joyce.
