Image: Canelo Alvarez fires back at Golovkin

By Jeff Aranow: It took only a day for Saul Canelo Alvarez to respond to middleweight champion Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin calling him a drug cheat on Tuesday. Canelo went primitive on Golovkin today, saying he’s going to kick his backside in their rematch on May 5th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Surprisingly, Canelo didn’t say much other than an expletive laden comment.

“I’m going to kick your effing a*** you little b****!” Canelo said.

Canelo needs to calm down by the time he steps foot inside the ring with Golovkin on May 5th. The last thing Canelo needs is for him to be still hopping mad and running into one of GGG’s huge shots. It’s not safe to fight with anger against a knockout artist like Golovkin. If he catches Canelo with one of his big shots, he could knock him clean out. Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez said that Golovkin never hits his opponents as hard as he’s seen him hit guys while training. If Golovkin makes an exception in Canelo’s case and finally unloads on him while he’s seeing red from the trash talking, we could see him get badly hurt.

Both fighters have dropped their nice guy images, and have revealed a side that the boxing public had previously never seen from them. It looks like the fans are going to see a real anger-filed fight between Canelo and Golovkin on the 5th of May. These two appear to hate each other now. Canelo had respect for Golovkin before their first fight last September, but that respect has evaporated recently with the bad blood over the positive clenbuterol test for the Mexican star.

It’s nice to see Canelo and GGG revealing what they really think instead of them complimenting each other all the time.

Many fans have responded to these comments from Canelo, saying on social media that he’s aggressive because he’s taking performance enhancing drugs and they’re making him angry.

A lot of boxing fans believe Canelo is a drug cheat. The fans have reacted negatively to Canelo’s positive tests for the banned drug clenbuterol, and his silence on the subject has made it seemingly worse. It’s like an out of control firestorm, the boxing public’s reaction to Canelo’s positive test. It would help if he’d something to the fans. It’s too bad Canelo didn’t take the time to address some of the comments Golovkin made about him believing that he had used performance enhancing drugs before their last September. A lot of boxing fans would have been curious to hear or read what Canelo had to say about Golovkin’s comments.

Golovkin sees Canelo as a serial drug cheat, who didn’t test positive for the performance enhancing drug clenbuterol because he consumed contaminated meat in Mexico. Golovkin believes Canelo intentionally used the drug to gain advantage over him for his first fight and now for their second fight on May 5 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Canelo tested positive for clenbuterol on February 17 and February 20. Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez has also been talking in the media about Canelo having used illegal wraps before the first fight with GGG. Sanchez revealed to the media that he tried to complain to the Nevada Commission inspector in the dressing room before the September fight that Canelo was having his hand wraps illegally wrapped and he was told to be quiet.

“Again with Mexican meat? Come on,” Golovkin said on Tuesday about Canelo’s excuse for testing positive for clenbuterol. “I told you, it’s not Mexican meat. This is Canelo. This is his team. This is his promotion. Canelo is cheating. They’re using these drugs, and everybody is just trying to pretend it’s not happening.”

Golovkin is usually very polite, mild-mannered and unwilling to talk bad about his opponents. In this instance, Golovkin has revealed a dark side of his personality that had previously been hidden. He seems like another person. He sounds very, very angry at Canelo. I don’t believe that anger will help Golovkin’s performance in the May 5th rematch. I do think Golovkin is going to trash the career of Canelo all the way up to the day of the rematch. If Golovkin wins the fight, then it’s possible he’ll let up on Canelo and take it easy on him in terms of trashing him. However, if Golovkin loses, I think he’ll really let him have it and blame his loss on his positive clenbuterol test. It’s the perfect excuse for Golovkin. It would be the perfect excuse for any fighter that lost to someone that had tested positive for a banned drug like clenbuterol.

A lot of boxing fans are saying that they’re not going to support the ‘drug cheat.’ It’s surprising how negatively the fans have reacted to the positive test for Canelo. The excuse that Canelo’s promoters Golden Boy Promotions has revealed to the media about their star having eaten tainted meat in Mexico hasn’t gain traction with the fans. You can tell when an excuse is believed by the fans. There’s usually a lot of people still defending a fighter after he and his team have given an excuse. In the case of Canelo, the fans are just piling on, trashing him and calling him, “Clenelo” and “Clenbutelo Alvaroidez.”

“This guy, he knows. This is not his first day in boxing,” Golovkin said. He proves he gets benefits from everyone and he can get away with it. Check him on a lie detector and then we can find out everything.”

Canelo is probably going to be cleared by the agency in charge of investigating his positive test for clenbuterol. I’m talking about the Nevada State Athletic Commission. They have said anything about their investigation of Canelo. But with as much money that is involved with the Canelo-GGG 2 rematch, it’s not feasible that the fight will be called off by the Nevada Commission deciding to suspend Canelo for a period.

The positive clenbuterol test gives Golovkin cover if he loses to Canelo, and it paves the way for a third fight between them. The reason why it makes the third fight necessary is because the boxing fans will want to see the two fighters face each other with Canelo having been tested frequently. If Canelo agrees to be tested from the day after his May 5th rematch until they face each other in 2019 for a third fight, then fans would want to see that.
