talkSPORT set for knockout boxing coverage

talkSPORT has exclusively secured the radio rights for the semi-finals and the final of the World Boxing Super Series.

There will be live ringside coverage on talkSPORT of both super-middleweight fights starting with the eagerly-awaited crunch clash between two of the UK’s best boxers, Chris Eubank Jr and George Groves, on February 17.

The new event, dubbed the Champions League of boxing, comes with a $50m prize fund and a trophy named after ring legend Muhammad Ali.

Former WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew will be talkSPORT’s pundit for the clash alongside co-commentator and fellow ex-world champion Glenn McCrory and commentator John Rawling.

Ex-WBA lightweight title holder Anthony Crolla will be in the talkSPORT chair for second semi-final, Jurgen Brähmer v Callum Smith, on February 24.

talkSPORT is also ramping up its pre-fight coverage with behind-the-scenes interviews with Groves and Eubank Jr at their gyms to follow their progress.

Both fighters will also appear on Breakfast with Alan Brazil and Drive with Adrian Durham and Darren Gough to preview the fight.

Meanwhile talkSPORT’s weekly Fight Night Show with Adam Catterall and Gareth A. Davies will keep listeners right up to date with the latest news from the camps ahead of the fights each Saturday night from 10pm until midnight.

Liam Fisher, National Radio controller at talkSPORT said: “talkSPORT’s exclusive coverage of this series reinforces our commitment to boxing. Our own ‘heavyweight’ team of pundits and experts will bring listeners all the ringside news, blow by blow. The Groves v Eubank Jr fight along with our exclusive rights to Bellew v Haye 2 means we are the destination for fight fans for two of the biggest UK matches for a long time.”

Tony Bellew said: “This competition is hotting up and what better way to kick-off the semi-finals than an all-British bout. As a fighter you always know that talkSPORT will go the distance from the fight build-up right through to every bob, weave and blow in the ring. It’s going to be knockout.”

Roberto Dalmiglio, head of management board at Comosa, said: “Our aim is to turn the World Boxing Super Series into the world’s biggest and best boxing tournament. By partnering with talkSPORT we know we will reach a highly-engaged and knowledgeable audience of fans, as talkSPORT underpins its position as UK radio’s home of boxing.”
