By Tim Royner: Former WBC light heavyweight world champion Jean Pascal (32-5-1, 19 KOs) exposed the popular Premier Boxing Champions regular Ahmed Elbiali (16-1, 13 KOs) in stopping the 27-year-old in the 6th round on Friday night at the Hialeah Park Racing & Casino, Hialeah. in Florida.

Pascal opened up with a flurry of shots against the badly faded Elbiali in round 6. The referee had no choice but to step in and stop the fight, as Elbiali was trapped against the ropes and taking one-way punishment.

Pascal had too much hand speed and stamina for Elbiali to compete with. For all intents and purposes, the fight was pretty much over after the 1st round. That was Elbiali’s best round of the fight. He seemed to hurt Pascal in the opening moments of the fight with 4 big right hands to the head. However, by the closing seconds of the round, Pascal started catching Elbiali with looping shots that were landing flush. The crowd started to motivate Pascal by cheering him. Pascal responded by nailing Elbiali with even big shots.

In between the 5th and 6th, Elbiali pulled his trainer to him and whispered something into his ear. It looked as if Elbiali might have been injured or somehow hurt, because he was no longer effective after the 1st round. By the 5th, Elbiali was getting caught repeatedly by Pascal with looking rights and lefts.

Pascal began to showboat by round 5, as he had Elbiali against the ropes in the final 20 seconds of the round. Elbiali looked not only tired, but he looked discouraged. He had the appearance of someone who he given up on himself completely. Elbiali was no longer confident. He looked unhappy and worried, like he realized he wasn’t in the same class as Pascal.

Elbiali was slow to get out of his corner at the start of round 6. When the round started, Elbiali stood up and turned around and looked at the crowd, as if he was looking for someone. In the meantime, Pascal walked all the way over to Elbiali’s corner and stood waiting for him to turn around and start fighting. It was the strangest. It’s unclear whether Elbiali was thinking of quitting or if he needed to see a family or friend in the audience to get encouragement from them. Whatever the case, as soon as Elbiali turned around and started fighting, Pascal nailed him with a big right to the head. Elbiali had some moments in the round in which he came to life and landed some short punches on the inside.

However, Pascal caught Elbiali with a looping right hand to the head that appeared to hurt him, causing him to back up to the corner. Once Elbiali was in the corner, Pascal unloaded with a flurry of big shots to the head with both hands. Pascal seemingly couldn’t miss with his shots. The referee finally had to step in and stop the action when it became clear that Elbiali wasn’t throwing anything back, and he wasn’t blocking any of the punches Pascal was throwing at him. All the shots were landing cleanly. Elbiali was taking the punches, but it looked too much he was defenseless. The referee couldn’t let the fight continue under those conditions.

Before the fight, Pascal had said he planned on retiring no matter what happened in the bout, and that appears to be what he’s going to do. Beating Elbiali was a good going away present for Pascal, but it’s not as if Pascal beat a top contender. Elbiali is NOT a contender. He’s a prospect that Premier Boxing Champions has been televising on their cards. It was obvious in Elbiali’s past fights that he’s not talented enough to mix it up with the world class fighters. We found that out tonight. Elbiali wasn’t even talented enough to compete with a past his prime Pascal. Let’s not get it twisted. Pascal did not look good in this fight. Pascal looked like a mere shadow of the fighter he once was. The way Pascal fought tonight, he would have been destroyed by the top light heavyweights like Sergey Kovalev, Artur Beterbiev, Oleksandr Gvozdyk, Adonis Stevenson and Sullivan Barrera. Pascal doesn’t have enough left in the tank to mix it up with those type of fighters.

The handlers for Elbiali made a huge blunder in letting him fight a former world champion like Pascal. Personally, when I first heard that Elbiali was planning on fighting Pascal, I thought it was a terrible mistake on Elbiali’s management’s part. I thought Elbiali was too limited to compete with even this version of Pascal. As it turns out, I was right. Elbiali didn’t belong in the same ring with Pascal, and I don’t think he ever will. It wasn’t just about Elbiali not having the experience to compete with someone like Pascal. He didn’t have the actual talent. The way Elbiali looked, he could fight for the next 10 years, and he’d never have the talent to beat even the past his prime Pascal we saw tonight. Elbiali is a fun 2nd tier light heavyweight to watch, but he’s not a world class guy. You can’t plug him in with former world champions and expect him to win. As we saw tonight, Elbiali has no business being inside the ring with a former world champion. He doesn’t have that kind of talent. Elbiali is more like a good journeyman level guy. At this point, I don’t think Elbiali could even beat someone like Yunieski Gonzalez.

In other results on the card, welterweight Bryant Perrella (15-1, 13 KOs) defeated Alex Martin (13-3, 5 KOs) by an 8 round unanimous decision. The judges scored the fight 79-72, 79-72, and 77-74.
In the 1st round, Perrella knocked Martin down with a right to the head. He wasn’t able to finish Martin off.

Undefeated featherweight Stephan Fulton (12-0, 5 KOs) defeated Adam Lopez (8-0, 3 KOs) by an 8 round unanimous decision. The judges scored it 76-76, 78-74, and 77-75.
