By Derek Holian: Tonight, Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) fights Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs) for middleweight supremacy at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. In one corner we have Golovkin. The Kazakh Brute, who is a breath of fresh air in boxing’s current political mess. Golovkin truly is a throwback Champion. A champion who seems devoted to one purpose alone, this purpose is making Boxing great again.

Golovkin fights with a coldness, menacingly stalking opponents with an onslaught that seems too much for any man to withstand. In the other corner, we have Canelo Alvarez. A proud Mexican fighter, who is following in a Tradition of all the great Mexican warriors. In order to emulate these past greats, he must be true to his word. He has spoken of luck been for the mediocre, and gives the impression of a fighter who is willing to leave every shred of himself in the ring tonight.

The American author Carlos Castaneda once said “To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on until the very last moment of our lives”. To put it simply, being a warrior for some is a way of life.

There comes a time in every Great Champions career. A time when they must dare to be Great. A time when they must face an elite adversary.Somebody whom if they overcome. will promote them, from a mere Fistic phenomenon, to the realms of all time Greatness.

So far the answers concerning this fight have been complicated, but the question is still very simple. Who wins this pugilistic extravaganza? Although on the surface many experts seem to see this as an even match-up, that could go either way. If we scratch a little deeper, Golovkin’s strength, and will to win will for me always be the defining factor. A factor that sees him prevail, and be projected to the realms of all-time middleweight great, and sends Alvarez back to the realms of catch-weight King. However, this is a fight where the fighters corners, and overall game plans may ultimately decide the difference between a points, or stoppage conclusion. But either way, the end result seems inevitable. we should expect a action packed spectacle, which sees Golovkin grinding his way to a late stoppage victory. I am praying, however, if it goes the distance, that Canelo’s PPV status has no influence on the judges, and for once we see a great fight followed by an honest decision that ultimately brings glory back to the sport of Boxing.
