2016 Ring Magazine, BBBofC and BWAA ‘Fighter of the Year’ Carl Frampton makes his long awaited return to the ring on July 29th in a fantastic WBC World featherweight title eliminator against Mexico’s top-ten ranked Andres Gutierrez, 35 (25) – 1 – 1. This Belfast showdown also marks Frampton’s first fight in his home city in over two years and sees him return to the SSE Arena Belfast, the scene of some of his most memorable victories.
Belfast’s former two-weight world champion Frampton has been involved in some of the biggest fights of recent times, including his two epic encounters with Mexico’s three-weight world champion Leo Santa Cruz. Frampton’s adoring home fans have been eagerly awaiting his ring return and on Saturday July 29th Frampton is back in action in this WBC World featherweight title eliminator against the dangerous Gutierrez in his hometown of Belfast.
Mexico’s Andres Gutierrez is one of the most avoided featherweights on the planet and a former WBC Silver champion at super bantamweight. The man known as ‘Jaguarcito’ is ranked in the top-ten with the WBC and on closer inspection his record reveals that his only loss was a highly controversial majority points decision to former unified world champion Christian Mijares in June of last year. Many observers felt that Gutierrez was extremely unfortunate to lose that fight. The top-ten ranked Gutierrez is only twenty-three years old and has amassed an impressive 35 (25) – 1 – 1 record over the course of his eight-year professional career.
The scene is set for an action-packed encounter between two of the best featherweights in the world on July 29th at the SSE Arena Belfast. You can follow all of the build-up on our twitter handle – @CyclonePromo ; and/or our Facebook page – www.facebook.com/CyclonePromotions

The broadcaster for this fight will be announced in the coming weeks.
Doors will open at 5pm on Saturday July 29th at the SSE Arena Belfast.
CARL FRAMPTON: I’m delighted to be boxing at home. I believe that I perform best when I fight in Belfast and it was important for me to give the home fans another big Belfast fight. Gutierrez is one of the best in the world at my weight and this is the kind of test I wanted. He comes forward and is aggressive so I believe it’s going to be a great fight.
ANDRES GUTIERREZ: I can’t wait for July 29th. It’s a big big fight and I’m very motivated to get the win. Frampton is a world-class fighter who has won many world titles and I respect him but it’s my time on July 29th. I know I have a great opportunity and I will not waste it. This is a fight I have wanted for a long time and I’m going to put my heart and soul into this fight and I will prevail.
BARRY MCGUIGAN: This is a fantastic fight. It’s brilliant that Carl is having a home fight and he is in against a very dangerous opponent in Andres Gutierrez. Carl is at his best when he has a live opponent who is hunting him down and on July 29th at the SSE Arena Belfast that is exactly what is going to happen. Stylistically it has all the makings of a very entertaining contest and I believe Carl will put on a world-class display in front of a packed house, it’s going to be a cracking fight!
SHANE MCGUIGAN: This is a good homecoming fight for Carl. Gutierrez is a top level opponent who likes to be on the front foot and is very aggressive. Carl needs this kind of test and I think it will bring out the best of him on July 29th. Carl has been in camp for a number of weeks and is already well into his preparations for this fight. It’s great to be back in Belfast, they’re the best fans in the world and they’re in for a great fight on July 29th!
