By Jeff Aranow: In the undercard of the Denis Lebedev vs. Murat Gassiev card, the hard hitting knockout artist Dmitry Kudryashov (20-1, 2O KOs) totally obliterated a badly over-matched fringe contender #12 WBA, #14 WB Sartander Silgado (27-4, 21 KOs) in the 1st round to capture the vacant World Boxing Council Silver cruiserweight title.

The 31-year-old Kudryashov knocked Silgado down twice in the 1st round. The second knockdown came from a left to the head that had the 31-year-old Silgado down on the canvas badly hurt. Kudryashov’s punching power was amazing. He showed super power in getting Silgado out of there quickly.

No one had ever knocked Silgado out that uickly before in his boxing career.

For Silgado, it was his fourth loss in his last eight fights. That’s bad news for Silgado’s boxing career. Silgado was also knocked out by Shawn Coz in 3 rounds in 2013. With his win, Kudryashov picked up his second straight win since he was stopped in the 2nd round by the hard hitting Olanrewaju Durodola last year in November. Durodola has since been stopped by Mairis Briedis in the 9th round last May.

In other boxing results on the card, former super middleweight contender Maxim Vlasov (37-2, 19 KOs) showed that he’s a force to be reckoned with in the cruiserweight division by halting former 2008 Olympic gold medalist and current #11 WBO, #12 IBF cruiserweight contender Rakhim Chakhkiev (26-3, 19 KOs) in the 7th round to capture the vacant WBA International cruiserweight title. Both fighters were down in the fight. Chakhkiev, 33, was knocked down five times in the fight. Three of the knockdowns came in round 5, one in round 6 and the last in the 7th. The 30-year-old Vlasov was knocked down in the 6th.

What’s impressive about Vlasov’s accomplishment in moving up to cruiserweight to KO a good fighter like Chakhkiev is that he started his career out as a middleweight in 2005. To move up all the way from the 160lb division to fight at the 200lb cruiserweight division is almost unheard of nowadays. This of course is going to encourage some boxing fans to continue pressuring IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin to move up to light heavyweight to take on champion Andre Ward. They can argue that if Vlasov was able to move up from middleweight to fight at a high level at cruiserweight, then Golovkin should be able to move up to at least the 175lb division, because that’s only two divisions and 15lbs above the division he’s fighting in right now at middleweight. But with that said, Vlasov hasn’t beaten the high quality cruiserweights yet like Oleksandr Usyk, Murat Gassiev, Denis Lebedev, Beibut Shumenov, Marco Huck, Briedi, and Tony Bellew. Vlasov might find it a little more difficult when he gets inside the ring with those guys.

IBF/WBA cruiserweight champion Denis Lebedev (29-2, 22 KOs) will be defending his undercard tonight against unbeaten highly ranked Murat Gassiev at the Khodnyka Ice Palace in Moscow, Russia. The 37-year-old Lebedev is the favorite with many boxing fans, but it’s still a very hard fight to predict.
