United Boxing Promotions regrets to announce that Tim “The Irish” Cronin (8-1-1, 2KOs) has suffered an injury and must withdraw from his scheduled contest with Phil “The Assassin” Rose (5-4-1, 4KOs) on November 19. Fans, however, will still be treated to a first rate fight. Canadian super welterweight champion Ryan Young (10-0-0, 8KOs) has stepped up on short notice and agreed to face Rose at middleweight. The Young-Rose bout is part of an already exciting eight fight event slated for the Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ontario. The card also features the return of undefeated super featherweight Josh O’Reilly (6-0-0, 1KOs) of Hamilton and the Ontario debut of Canadian Olympian Simon Kean (6-0-0, 6KOs) of Trois-Rivières.
Young is fresh off a dominating performance against the always tough Ryan Wagner (6-4-0, 3KOs) to claim the vacant Canadian super welterweight crown. The fighting pride of Oakville, Ontario, Young needed just over two rounds to win his first national championship, earning the TKO victory at 0:43 of the third round. Rose, however, knows a thing or two about upsets. After a year and a half away from the pro scene in 2014, Rose took a fight with Canadian Olympian Adam Trupish (11-2-0, 8KOs). Despite being labelled a heavy underdog, Rose turned in a career defining performance, stopping Trupish via TKO5. The willingness of both Young and Rose to meet at middleweight, on relatively short notice, says volumes about both men as boxers and professionals.
