Gavronski, Awimbono clash at Battle at the Boat 108
Super middleweights Mike Gavronkski and Thomas Awimbono will meet in the 10-round main event of Battle at the Boat 108 on Saturday at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Wash.
Gavronski is coming off a victory over previously undefeated Jake Carr and brings a record of 21-2-1 with 14 KOs into the bout, while Awimbono, a native of Ghana who will be making his United States debut in the fight, is 25-4-1 with 21 knockouts and has won 18 consecutive fights, last losing nearly seven years ago.
“Whoever wins will definitely make a case to be ranked among the top 10 in the world,” promoter Brian Halquist said. “Gavronski is coming off his best performance of his career and Awimbono hasn’t lost since 2010. These are two hungry fighters.”
Tickets are available through the EQC box office and all Ticketmaster Outlets. Preliminary bouts start at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.
Battle at the Boat 108 will feature the all new VIP experience with 3rd Row Seats being discounted to $75 per ticket. All fans seated in in the VIP section (rows 1-3) will have an exclusive access point and a dedicated server to help create a true VIP experience.
Gavronski, currently ranked No. 39 in the world by the World Boxing Council, defeated former Australian champion Carr by TKO on Sept. 10. This fight will mark his 10th career appearance at the Emerald Queen Casino. He has won eight out of his nine fights locally with his only setback coming against Dashon Johnson on Nov. 7, 2015 in a bout for the WBA NABA United States super middleweight championship.
After losing by decision to undefeated Thomas Oosthuizen, who is currently ranked among the world’s top 10 light heavyweights, in a bout for the WBA Pan African super middleweight crown in early 2010, the 25-year-old Awimbono has been on a tear, winning 18 consecutive fights with 17 of those victories coming via knockout.
The six-bout card will also feature a semi-main at 140 pounds between Yakima’s Andres Reyes (5-1-1) and Marco Cardenas (5-5-1), a 149-pound contest between Tacoma’s Andre Keys (2-1) and Nate Serrano (4-4-2), a 153-pound bout between Zach Cooper (4-2-2) and Tony Neal (4-6) and undefeated Giovanni Mioletti (3-0) taking on fellow 138-pounder Niko McFarland.
