By Scott Gilfoid: Former World Boxing Association 168lb champion Vincent Feigenbutz (24-2, 24 KOs) defeated an over-matched Guillermo Ruben Andino (10-2, 5 KOs) by a 6th round knockout on Saturday night in Germany.

The 21-year-old Feigenbutz dropped the 25-year-old Andino with a heavy shot to the head in the 6th. The fight was then halted by Andino’s team. The official time of the stoppage was at 2:13 by referee Holger Wiemann.

Feigenbutz looked powerful as always in winning his third straight fight since losing his WBA interim super middleweight title last January to Giovanni De Carolis by an 11th round knockout. The problem that Feigenbutz showed against De Carolis was his defense, work rate and his stamina. We didn’t see any real improvements in Feigenbutz’s game tonight.

I don’t think Feigenbutz is ever going to be able to throw a lot of punches or fight with stamina. The one area that Feigenbutz can improve on is his defense. He’s got to learn how to block right hands, because he’s too easy to hit with those shots.

#9 WBA Feigenbutz needs a lot more seasoning before he gets put in with anyone of talent in the future. He needs to develop his boxing skills before he faces one of the better fighters in the division again. Feigenbutz’s ranking by the WBA is very generous in my view, because I don’t think he’s better than soe of the guys that he’s ranked above like Jesse Hart, Zac Dunn and Caleb Truax.

Feigenbutz’s German handlers need to slow up his growth and match him carefully for five or six years before they throw him in the deep water again. Feigenbutz is way too green to be fighting the talented contenders or champions now.

If Feigenbutz’s handlers want to match him hard, then that’s up to them. I think it would be stupid though, because he’s too flawed right now to be put in with anyone good. Feigenbutz can certainly punch hard, but he’s powerful enough to dominate guys with better boxing skills than himself.

It would be great news if Feigenbutz could improve in the next year or so to start beating guys like Fedor Chudinov, George Groves, Callum Smith, Arthur Abraham and the talented Dirrell brothers, but I don’t see it happening. I think Feigenbutz is light years away from being able to compete against those guys, and he’s even worse off when it comes to the world champions in the super middleweight division.
