By Dominic Chapman: After years of being in the darkness and outshone by the more exciting lighter weight divisions, big time heavyweight boxing looks to be back. With Wladimir Klitschko’s dominance and not so exciting fighting style, not to mention lack of challengers with real pedigree many fans have became disillusioned with the sports glamour division.

It took Britain’s Tyson Fury to dethrone the long reigning heavyweight King Klitschko in Germany and get fans talking about the heavyweights again. However with a rematch clause in the contract the two were scheduled to fight again and with the first fight not being the most entertaining of bouts, it would be a fight mainly for the hardcore boxing fans and not one to capture the public’s imagination.

With Tyson Fury pulling out of the rematch recently after being declared ‘medically unfit’ to fight, it looks as though he will be stripped of his belts, paving the way for many exciting match ups to commence. Exciting knockout artists Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua already hold the WBC and IBF belts respectively and with a clutch of other exciting heavyweights waiting in the wings for title shots if Fury is stripped, we could be on the verge of another golden generation of heavyweights.

Anthony Joshua Vs Wladimir Klitschko is close to being made according to Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn and could be a unification fight with at least one other version of the heavyweight title on the line. Fighter such as David Haye, Joshua Parker, Alexander Povetkin, Lucas Browne and Kubrat Pulev will all be hoping this isn’t the case so they can mount their own title challenge.

After Tyson Fury’s unfortunate situation, we could eventually be about to see the top fighters fighting each other to become cream of the crop, instead of fighting less skilled fighters who are ranked by the organizations, like Britain’s David Haye has been doing since coming out of retirement.

The much avoided Luis Ortiz could also be close to getting a title shot after signing with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, Hearn has a good track record of getting his fighters World Title shots and Ortiz could be added to the mix in Britain’s already thriving boxing scene.

With news expected in the not to distant future regarding Tyson Fury’s title’s, Heavyweight boxing could well and truly be back and about to take over as the most exciting division in World Boxing.
