By Scott Gilfoid: Tyson Fury will NOT be stripped of his IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight titles, according to his trainer Peter Fury, who says that a statement will be coming out “soon” to explain why his fighter pulled out of his scheduled October 29 fight against Wladimir Klitschko at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England.

Peter says that the titles will be sorted out legally. If that’s the case, then the sanctioning bodies might not strip the 6’9” Fury like a lot of boxing fans think, hope and are expecting them to.

Peter Fury said this on his social media site:

“Belts will be determined by the right Legal process. In the meantime’ Singing in the rain fits the bill of today. With Tysons condition’ he cannot be held culpable’ detailed statement coming soon on health. He will not & should not be stripped of belts.”

Gee, I wonder what the excuse will be for Fury for him pulling out of the fight with the Ukrainian heavyweight. Peter says that Fury SHOULD NOT and WILL NOT be stripped of his title belts. I wonder what makes Peter think Fury won’t get stripped. If the sanctioning bodies don’t strip Fury, then they’re going to look funny in the eyes of a lot of boxing fans. But more than that, the sanctioning bodies won’t make money off their heavyweight titles if Fury is unable to make it to the ring.

With out of action, it’s frozen the belts due to him not being able to fight. It’s especially bad for the 40-year-old Wladimir. He’ll be turning 41 in March, and he’s not young. You can’t throw Wladimir into suspended animation so that he stops aging while he waits for Fury to make it back into the ring to fight him. Wladimir needs to have the fight with Fury take place soon because the guy is wasting what little time that he has left in his career waiting for the fight.

By Wladimir not getting a fight against Fury in 2016, he’s potentially missing out on two paydays, as Wladimir usually fights twice per year. There’s talk of Wladimir potentially fighting on December 10 in Hamburg, Germany against an opponent still to be determined, but that’s not a given that fight takes place.

I’d be surprised if the Fury isn’t stripped of his titles. I doubt that the sanctioning bodies will care what the reason is for Fury not being able to make it to the ring for the rematch against Wladimir on October 29.

The fact that this is the SECOND time that Fury has pulled out of the rematch against the 40-year-old Wladimir, I don’t think the sanctioning bodies are going to be so lenient and just let Fury keep postponing fights over and over again. Fury originally was supposed to fight Wladimir on July 9. That fight was postponed after suffered a foot injury. Fury and Wladimir then rescheduled for October 29. Now that fight too has been canceled.

I don’t know why Fury wants to hold onto his titles. If he’s not going to be fighting, then why would he want to keep his belts? Is it for adornment? Heavyweight titles are only good if you’re actively defending them; otherwise they’re little more useless trophies that hang around the house. With all the boxing fans upset right now, the sanctioning bodies are going to be putting themselves on the spot if they choose to allow Fury to hold onto his titles. Fans might wonder why other fighters in the past weren’t allowed to keep their titles after they were pulling out of fights left and right. If the sanctioning bodies weren’t willing in the past to let their champions just hang onto belts without defending them for years at a time, then it won’t make sense if they allow Fury to keep their belts without fighting.
