By Allan Fox: Felix Verdejo has reportedly been released from the hospital according to Dan Rafael. Unbeaten lightweight contender Verdejo (22-0, 15 KOs) has been hospitalized since last Sunday after crashing his motorcycle. Fortunately for Verdejo, 23, has wasn’t seriously injured in the accident. However, he was hurt badly enough to be hospitalized up until now.

“Per Top Rank Boxing publicist Glady Lopez, Diamante Verdejo was released this evening from the hospital,” said Rafael on his Twitter.

Verdejo was kept in the hospital due to the number of scratches that he’d suffered in the accident. Verdejo had both a CT and MRI scan to make sure that he had no broken bones or internal injuries.

Verdejo’s motorcycle accident took place in Puerto Rico. At the time of the accident, Verdejo had a helmet on but it was one of those helmets with an open face, which caused him to suffer a number of cuts and abrasions on his exposed face. He was a highway. Verdejo attempted to swerve around an obstruction in the road, and this lead to the accident. It’s unclear why Verdejo chose to ride a motorcycle rather than driving an automobile. With his profession, it’s risky for fighters to ride motorcycles.

“He saw a bump in the road and tried to avoid it, and that’s when he lost control of the motorbike,” Verdeo’s publicist Gladys Lopez said to ESPN.com. “Thank God everything is OK. He escaped this accident with just a lot of scratches. We don’t have an exact timeline for his recuperation period.”

Former world champion Paul Williams was paralyzed in a motorcycle accident in the past. Former WBC super middleweight champion Anthony Dirrell was injured in a motorcycle accident several years ago. Former lightweight champion Diego Corrales was killed in a motorcycle accident.

Before the accident, Verdejo was expected to fight World Boxing Organization lightweight champion Terry Flanagan (31-0, 12 KOs) in three months from now on November 5 in Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s unclear whether that fight will happen now. If Verdejo is able to make a quick recovery, then it’s possible that he can still fight Flanagan on the Pacquiao vs. Jessie Vargas card.
