By Allan Fox: Trainer Adam Booth figures that welterweight Kell Brook is going to be really up against it on September 10 in his fight against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin, because of his ability to pressure, cut off the ring, throw with major power, and counter punch.

Booth sees counter-punching pressure fighters as being the most difficult fighters to face, because they force you to fight and then counter punch you. Booth says that Brook doesn’t have enough punching power to really trouble Triple G, because he’s used to being hit by bigger, stronger punchers than Brook during his career.

“Golovkin vs. any middleweight is a step too far, and Kell’s a welterweight,” said Booth to Fighthype.com. “He’s been hit by bigger, harder punchers [than Brook]. “He doesn’t have the power to trouble Gennady…it’s probably going to be the biggest ask that anyone’s had…he cuts the ring off better than anyone…he’s been hunting ’em down from the amateurs…he’s a pressure fighting counter-puncher. They’re the worst type of fighters to fight because they make it so difficult,” said Booth.

It’s definitely going to be difficult for Brook, because he can’t rely on movement to beat Golovkin, because that doesn’t work. We saw how Golovkin was able to nullify the movement from Willie Monroe Jr. and Dominic Wade in his recent fights against them. They briefly tried to get away from Golovkin, but he was far too good at cutting off the ring and he took them both out.

Brook doesn’t move that well for a welterweight. He does like to tie up his opponents if he’s feeling threatened by their punching power, but clinching only works if you’re facing someone that is willing to be clinched or who doesn’t know how to keep fighting while being held.

Golovkin doesn’t allow himself to be held. He fends of clinching attempts, and fights through clinches. Brook will need to come up with some other plans if that’s his Plan-A for the fight against Golovkin. Movement will be a fast as well.

Brook’s best and only chance of beating Golovkin is to meet him head on from round one in the center of the ring and try to punch with him the best that he can. Brook talks a lot about his punching power being equal to or better than Golovkin. Well, this will be Brook’s big chance to prove it.

Monroe had his moments against Golovkin in taking the fight to the inside against him. Golovkin looked really tired by the 5th round of that fight. However, he turned up the heat on Monroe and got him out of there in the 6th round. Brook would need to set a fast pace and look to meet Golovkin punch for punch and hope that his punching power and youth proves to be too much for the 34-year-old Golovkin.

Anything possible in the sport, and we could see an upset in this fight. Kassim Ouma gave GGG all kinds of problems in their fight in 2011 by standing and trading with him. Ouma didn’t bother trying to use movement because he saw it as pointless. He wasn’t going to be able to outrun Golovkin.
