By Scott Gilfoid: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) took to Twitter on Wednesday to say he’s agreed to everything in the negotiations for his title defense against the popular British fighter Chris Eubank Jr. (23-1, 18 KOs) for a fight between them in the coming months. However, Golovkin says that Eubank Jr. seems have “lost his pen.”

This is what I was afraid of. Golovkin and his promoter Tom Loeffler putting the effort and hard work into the negotiations only to see Eubank Jr. freeze when it comes to the moment for him to sign the contract. What can you say though? That’s why I liked the idea of Loeffler giving Eubank Jr. a hard 48 hour deadline for him to put pen to paper. That way Loeffler and Golovkin could quickly have moved on if the contract wasn’t signed. The last thing Golovkin needs is to spend weeks/months on negotiations with Eubank Jr. for a fight that fails to pan out. The wasted effort on Golovkin’s part for the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fight should be a learning tool for future negotiations with other fighters.

This is so, so sad. I’m really disappointed in Eubank Jr. I was hoping he would have already put his John Hancock on the contract by now so that he can try and back up his bold talk, but I wondering if he’s having second thoughts.

So there it is. Golovkin says he’s agreed to everything and Eubank Jr. has lost his pen all of a sudden. Now what could be the reason for why Eubank Jr. isn’t signing the contract? Does he want a bigger slice of the pie or does he not fancy his chances of winning?

Just why Eubank Jr. isn’t signing the contract for the fight is the big question? Is he and his father Chris Eubank Sr. now having second thoughts about wanting to step inside the ring with GGG? By not signing the contract for the fight, Eubank Jr. can avoid the risk involved in facing GGG. Of course, if Eubank Jr. does choose to go in a different direction, he’ll take a ton of abuse from boxing fans for not going through with the fight.

At some point, Golovkin and Loeffler needs to move on and look for another opponent if Eubank Jr. doesn’t sign the contract. Personally, I’d give them a 12-hour deadline to either sign the contract or I’d be moving on. In other words, a take it or leave it offer.
