Tom Schwarz defeats Dennis Lewandowski

By Allan Fox: Undefeated #15 WBO heavyweight fringe contender Tom Schwarz (17-0, 11 KOs) pounded out an unimpressive 10 round unanimous decision victory on Saturday night against the previously unbeaten Dennis Lewandowski (9-1, 4 KOs) to win the vacant WBC Youth heavyweight title at the Elbauenpark in Magdeburg, Germany. The fight was scored 99-91, 100-90 and 99-92.
The 22-year-old Schwarz landed at will against Lewandowski all night long, but he was unable to hurt him with anything.

The lightly rounded looking Lewandowski had his gloves glued to his head all night long and was not leaving many openings for Schwarz to land clean shots. The 6’5” Schwarz did land many punches in the 10 round fight, but his power and hand speed was inadequate to hurt the 22-year-old Lewandowski in any way.

Schwarz had his best success in the 4th round, when he caught Lewandowski with a solid right hand that caused him to stagger backwards briefly. Schwarz then went for broken in trying to finish him off, but he wasn’t able to do so.

In round 10, Schwarz came out fast looking to score a knockout by throwing a lot of heavy shots. However, after a brief time out for tape repair on one of his gloves, Lewandowski came alive and landed some nice shots in the final 20 seconds of the round. Schwarz was fortunate the round wasn’t another 30 seconds because he might have been in trouble if there was more time in the round. After the fight ended, Schwarz collapsed on the canvas and began celebrating.

The judges hadn’t even read the scores yet. Schwarz looked very tired and relieved the fight was over. He then went gave hugs to all of his team members. Schwarz wasn’t facing a top contender in Lewandowski. He was facing a 2nd tier prospect.

Schwarz is going to need to work on his punching power in a major way if he wants to compete against the top contenders in the heavyweight division. With the way he looked last night, he doesn’t look good enough to beat any of the top contenders in the division. The World Boxing Organization is doing Schwarz no favors in ranking him at No.15 because he doesn’t appear to have the talent to beat any of the top contenders.

In other results on the card, heavyweight Agit Kabayel (15-0, 12 KOs) stopped Christian Lewandowski (9-1, 9 KOs) by a 7th round knockout after hitting him with a left to the body. Christian is the brother of Dennis Lewandowski.
