Image: Lee Haskins vs. Ivan Morales: Can the legacy continue?By Gerardo Granados: This Saturday, on May 14 at the Ice Arena, Cardiff, Wales, the IBF bantamweight titlist Lee Haskins with 32 wins, 14 by the way of knockout, 3 loses and no draws, will attempt his first defense of his title against a contender named Ivan Morales who possess a record of 29 wins, 17 by the way of knockout, one loss and no draws.

32 year-old southpaw Lee Haskins stands 5´5” tall, 66” reach, and has fought most of his boxing career in the UK. Also a southpaw, 24 years old Ivan Morales stands 5´7” tall, has fought most of his boxing career in Mexico.

A friend asked me what could make this fight so special. So, I replied to him that Ivan is the youngest brother of Erik Terrible Morales and also of Diego Pelucho Morales (former WBO super flyweight).

For Ivan Morales this will be his first shot at a World Title, so I asked him:

GG – The Morales surname is recognized in pro boxing by all fight fans, do you feel pressure or motivation?

IM – Motivation because my brothers became world champions so I believe that I can also do it.

GG – Haskins isn’t an easy prey; do you trust the fight judges to be fair?

IM – I know Haskins is a good boxer, even if he is at home I am sure that I will win and I hope the fight judges will do their job right.

There have been a couple of brothers who in the past became boxing world champions. I am sure the reader can remember more names, but by now I can recall the Ruelas brothers, Rafael Ruelas former IBF lightweight and Gabriel Ruelas former WBC super feather. I bet the reader must remember the name of two brothers, who twice, won the fight of the year award given by both The Ring Magazine and Boxingnews24, the Marquez brothers, Juan Manuel Marquez and Rafael Marquez.

Of course it is too soon to tell how far Ivan will go, but I surely hope that next Saturday Haskins and Morales can offer to us the fight fans an epic fight to remember.

Ivan has the boxing skills, the surname, an influential promoter and even an eager fan base to follow the legacy of the Morales. Perhaps Ivan will be able to win, maybe no one should write Haskins off, but for sure the one who shows the most hunger to win will prevail.

I see this one as an even fight and believe me when I wish good luck to both fighters, but as a fight fan, I sure hope Ivan can continue the Morales legacy. After all he has all the tools to succeed. But what about the readers, can Ivan Morales continue the legacy?
