Maurice Weber Returns April 9 On Culcay Undercard

Former light middleweight world title challenger Maurice Weber will make his return to the ring on April 9 at the MBS Arena in Potsdam, Germany on the undercard of the WBA World Light Middleweight Championship between Jack Culcay and Jean Carlos Prada in a fight scheduled for eight rounds.

Maurice Weber last fought eleven months ago when he lost a closely contested decision to Culcay in a battle for the WBA interim title. Over the course of the fight, Weber suffered a complicated fracture to his hand – a injury that has now fully healed. “I’m happy to be back”, Weber said. “My training camp was excellent, my hand is fine. I can’t wait to be back in the ring.”

The 34-year old, who is promoted by Sturm Box-Promotions, is eager to get back into rhythm before a bigger fight in the fall. “You can spar all you want but you need the real thing to lose ring rust”, he explained. “This fight will help me in my preparation for big fight later this year. My promoter has told me that he is working on something for September but while I look forward to that, my mind is completely focused on next Saturday. I have to deal with that first.”

The setback against Culcay is no longer on Weber’s mind. ”Of course, I was disappointed at first”, he said. “It was, after all, my first shot at a world title. I believe I fought a great fight, especially with the injury in mind – and I believe that I should’ve gotten the decision. But that’s in the past, what matters now is the future.”
