Gerald Washington defeats Eddie Chambers
(Photo Credit: Suzanne Teresa/Premier Boxing Champions) By Chris Williams: Undefeated heavyweight contender Gerald Washington (17-0-1, 11 KOs) used his big size advantage to beat former world title challenger Eddie Chambers (42-5, 23 KOs) by an 8 round unanimous decision on Saturday night on Premier Boxing Champions on Fox at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.
The final judges’ scores were 79-73, 80-72 and 80-72. The 6’7″ Washington threw three times as many punches than the smaller 6’1″ Chambers, but most of the shots Washington threw were jabs. He had little in the way of hand speed, and he didn’t look particularly impressive.
Chambers threw very few punches until showing a bit of life in the 6th. He landed a nice left hook to the jaw of Washington in that round that got his attention. But Washington was able to keep Chambers off of him by using his long reach to hold his left arm extended in front of him all night long top keep Chambers from getting close to him.
