1-golovkin-wade (10)By Jeff Aranow: Unbeaten #3 IBF Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) will be facing IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) in less than three weeks from now on April 23 on HBO Championship Boxing from the Forum in Inglewood, California.

Wade, 25, sees this fight as a tremendous opportunity for him and he intends on taking advantage of that opportunity by beating the powerful 34-year-old Golovkin. Wade doesn’t see anything special when he looks at Golovkin’s fights other than his punching power, and he feels he’s very beatable. He says he’s going to beat him on April 23rd and then move on with his win to get bigger fights out there.

One potential fight for Wade is a fight against WBC middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. If Wade beats Golovkin, he’ll have the chance to get a fight like that.
“I look at is as a beautiful thing, a great opportunity,” said Wade. “I’m ready for it. We’re ready. We’re ready now.”

Golovkin is a heavy favorite to win this fight on betting sites. If Wade does beat Golovkin, it would be a huge upset because no one is expecting him to do anything in this fight other than to lose.

Wade’s best chance of beating Golovkin is to go after him immediately and look to take him out quickly. That’s what Golovkin and his trainer Abel Sanchez are least suspecting from him. They think Wade is going to be looking to box and stay on the outside in the same way that Golovkin’s last opponent David Lemieux did last October.

Lemieux gave away his only chance of winning the fight by playing it safe and not trying to take Golovkin out in the early rounds. Lemieux has never been known for someone capable of getting knockouts late in his fights. That’s why it was such a mistake on Lemieux’s part not to go after Golovkin from the start.

Wade gets most of his knockouts early too. He’s a great puncher who is capable of getting a lot on his shots when he uses his tall frame to get leverage on his punches. Wade may not punch as hard as Golovkin with every punch, but he’s capable of throwing with nearly the same kind of power when he loads up on his shots and gets his body behind them.

If Wade lands a perfect shot on April 23, he could take Golovkin out. It’s not going to be easy, but there’s a real potential there for Wade. He can’t fall into the same trap as Lemieux by thinking he can stay on the outside and play it safe for 12 rounds. That’s not going to work because Wade isn’t going to win a decision against a popular fight like Golovkin. He’s the guy that HBO and the boxing world is really high on right now. To beat a popular fighter like Golovkin, it’s probably going to take a knockout by Wade to do the job. Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez won’t suspect that Wade will be coming after him to get a knockout in this fight, so there’s a real chance for Wade.
