Haye bragging about how he’s going to KO De Mori

haye55By Scott Gilfoid: David Haye (26-2, 24 KOs) has a soft opponent he’s facing in Mark De Mori (30-1-2, 26 KOs) on January 16th, and he’s now bragging about how he’s going to KO the guy when they face each other at the O2 Arena in London, UK. The fight supposed to be televised on DAVE.

For Haye’s sake, he had better hope he’s able to KO De Mori, because he could wind up getting knocked out by him if he lets him hang around for a long time. I mean, Haye is a former cruiserweight, and he’s not really built to be taking head shots from a heavyweight, even a mediocre one like De Mori.

I’ve seen some of De Mori’s fights, and he pretty much doesn’t impress me at all. He looks like a part time bodybuilder more so than a fighter, and he’s not exactly the fastest guy in the ring.

De Mori has been fighting 2nd tier fighters for years, and it seems like a failure to launch with the way that he’s babied his career.

I don’t understand what the hold has been. De Mori has been fighting for 12 years, and he should have already stepped up by now, don’t you think? If it were me, I would have gotten it over with by now to see if I was any good. I’d take on a top talent to see where I stood as a fighter rather than fighting guys like Macel Zeller, Radenko Kovav, Zelko Bojic and Marino Goles. Sadly, those are De Mori’s last four opponents.

“I’m excited too and I’m sure everyone at the O2 arena are going to be thrilled by us really going at it,” Haye said. “I know you’re the Dominator and you really want to dominate me but unfortunately, I’m going to rip out the Haymaker and get you down for the count.”

Speaking of the O2 Arena, I’m wondering how many paying boxing fans are going to show up for the fight. I wouldn’t be surprised if the thing is half empty. Haye may not realize it, but if the O2 winds up as a ghost town on January 16th with few people showing up, it could pretty much sink his chances for a fight against Anthony Joshua.

I don’t see how Joshua would want to waste his time if he sees that Haye can’t draw fans. If I’m Joshua or his promoter Eddie Hearn, I’d put Haye on ignore if I saw that he wasn’t able to sell out the O2. I’d just forget about him completely and take my career in another direction. The only way a fight between Joshua and Haye makes sense is if Haye can pull in fans too. If not, then it’s not even worth it to fight him. It would be like fighting Dereck Chisora. There would be no upside to fighting a 2nd tier guy like Haye.

“He [De Mori] hasn’t lost in over a decade and he has knocked out the same amount of fighters that I’ve beaten and he’s ranked top ten in the world so there are positive things about him,” Haye said. “I hope training has gone really good and you’re feeling positive about 16th.”

Oh brother, Haye is really making a big production about De Mori’s padded record. Come on, man. The only reason De Mori has a mess of KO wins on his resume is because he’s been fighting fodder opponents. That’s the way I see it. If De Mori was facing talents like Deontay Wilder and Luis Ortiz, do you really think he would have all these knockout wins? Heck no. If De Mori was fighting the cream of the heavyweight crop for the past 11 years, I think he would have a losing record. I can’t see one quality heavyweight in the top 15 that I think De Mori can beat, not one. I guess that’s probably why Haye picked De Mori out. He sees weakness like I do, so he went ahead and signed for a fight against him rather than looking to take a real challenge like taking on someone like Carlos Takam, Bryant Jennings, or Kubrat Pulev. Those would be nice comeback opponents for Haye to have fought.
