1-DEONTAY WILDER-WEIGH IN-01152015-9719By Scott Gilfoid: WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (35-0, 34 KOs) recognizes there are some boxing fans and different fighters that may not like him, but he says they will need to respect him. You can definitely say that for Deontay’s opponent Artur Szpilka (20-1, 15 KOs), who he’ll be facing this Saturday night on Showtime.

Szpilka has already made it clear that he doesn’t like Deontay after getting a dose of his upfront and real personality during the run up to their fight. However, if Szpilka doesn’t respect Deontay when they share the squared circle on Saturday, then he could be in for a great deal of problems, because Deontay Wilder surely put a hurting on him if he’s careless and unthinking.

For Deontay, this is his third defense of his WBC title in less than one year, and he’s going through the contender ranks at lightning speed. If Deontay can continue to fight at this pace, he could finish up most if not all of the World Boxing Council’s top 15 contenders in a few years.

“I’m not just here to get my paycheck. Everyone knows me knows I come to fight,” said Szpilka. “I will fight hard and after the fight you will hear ‘the new heavyweight champion of the world.”

I think most people agree that Szpilka will be losing the fight on Saturday. The only thing that really is in doubt is whether it’ll be by a knockout. I don’t see it being any other way but a knockout for Deontay, because Szpilka is just too easy to hit. You can’t be someone that is easy to hit if you’re fighting a KO artist like Deontay, because he’ll finish you off quickly with his right hand power shots.

Deontay seems to be developing his left hook, and that could be a weapon for him in this fight. We saw how Deontay was able to hurt his last two opponents Johann Duhaupas and Eric Molina with his left hooks. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he gets Szpilka in trouble with one of his lefts.

I hope for Szpilka’s sake that he gives Deontay the respect that a knockout artist like him deserves, because if he doesn’t respect him, Deontay will take care of him quickly. I think it could turn out to be one of Deontay’s 1st round KO jobs like the number he did on Malik Scott, Audley Harrison and Siarhei Liakhovich. Those guys underestimated Deontay’s punching power, and it cost them big time with them all getting blasted out in one round.

“2016 is going to be a huge year for Deontay Wilder,” Deontay said. “The fans are going to be very excited and impressed with what I do this year. My goal is to be undisputed champion of the world and whoever has those belts is going to have to deal with me.”

Deontay will need to beat Szpilka and possibly Alexander Povetkin before he gets a potential fight against the winner of the Tyson Fury vs. Wladimir Klitschko fight for the IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight titles. I don’t see Wilder getting a shot at the winner of the Vyacheslav Glazkov vs. Charles Martin fight, because I suspect that winner will go on a title milking run to get some easy paydays.
