Hearn wants Brook vs. Bizier in U.S in early 2016

brook4By Scott Gilfoid: Rather than stage a fight that he feels wouldn’t interest the British public in the UK, Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn says he’s interested in having his fighter IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook’s next title defense against #5 IBF Kevin Bizier (25-2, 17 KOs) take place in the United States.

It’s unclear why Hearn would want to have an awful fight like Brook-Bizier be staged in the U.S., because it’s not a good match-up, and Bizier isn’t from the United States. He’s from Canada, and he’s already been beaten twice by former Brook victim Jo Jo Dan. The last time Bizier was beaten by Jo Jo Dan was just last December in Canada.

Khan has Hearn practically frothing at the mouth after he said that he’ll fight Brook in May of 2016 at Wembley Stadium if he doesn’t get selected by Manny Pacquiao. Since it doesn’t look like Khan will get the Pacquiao fight, Hearn is all excited about putting together a fight between him and Brook in the summer of 2016.

Unfortunately for Brook and Hearn, the International Boxing Federation threw a wrench in their works by saying that Brook has to fight Bizier next. That’s not a fight that Hearn is excited about for obvious reasons. Bizier has no fans base to speak of, and he’s already been beaten by Joe Jo Dan.

“We’re pushing forward for the Amir Khan fight and we expect it to happen at the end of May or early June,” Hearn said to skysports.com. “In the meantime, if we have to deal with the mandatory [against Bizier] then it’s likely we’ll travel to America to do it because it’s more appealing there than here.”

I hate to break the news to Hearn, but a fight between Brook and Bizier is not going to interest anyone in the U.S. That’s not a fight that will sell. Brook is an unknown as it is in the U.S with the casual boxing fans, but Bizier is even worse. I see the Brook vs. Bizier fight as a nice undercard fight in terms of being the first fight of the night before the crowd starts arriving.

It would be a nice off TV type fight where the hardcore boxing fans could find out the results the next day. I don’t know why Hearn wouldn’t want to keep Brook in the U.S when fighting his fodder opponents. It’s not as if Brook has been fighting quality opposition the last 11 years of his career. He’s had that one fight against Shawn Porter in 2014, and the rest of Brook’s fights have come against guys in the same class if now worse than Bizier.

“Bizier has lost to Jo Jo Dan,” Hearn said. “He’s a decent fighter but it’s not the easiest to sell and we need to prepare for the Khan fight, which is what we’re heading towards. It’s all feet to the pedal on that – especially after him saying he hasn’t got the Manny Pacquiao fight and will fight Kell Brook.”
