Klitschko: Fury would lose to Haye and Joshua

wladimir4By Scott Gilfoid: After having beaten David Haye and sparred with Anthony Joshua in the past, IBF/IBO/WBA/WBA heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-3, 53 KOs) is convinced that both of those fighters would whip unbeaten #1 WBO Tyson Fury (24-0, 18 KOs) if given the chance.

Klitschko feels that Haye would be too elusive for Fury to beat, and Joshua too improved. Fury and Haye were supposed to face each other in the past, but Haye was twice injured during training camps for the fight and was forced to pull out of the contest.

“David Haye would have knocked out Tyson Fury if that fight had happened,” Klitschko said via skysports.com. “I fought David Haye and I’ve sparred Joshua and can tell you David Haye would have knocked Tyson Fury out if he had taken that fight. It was not easy (when I fought) David Haye. Haye was fast with his hands and footwork. It was extremely complicated to hit him.”

Well, I think it’s pretty clear that Fury would lose to both Haye and Joshua, but that’s a given. I think Fury would lose to a lot more guys than just those two fighters. Fury is too much of a slapper to beat either of those guys. If you put Fury in with guys like Deontay Wilder, Dillian Whyte, Bryant Jennings, and Kubrat Pulev, he’s going to probably lose every time.

It’s too bad the World Boxing Organization didn’t force Fury to fight someone good for him to become the WBO mandatory challenger to Klitschko, because they made it too easy for him by only requiring that he beat Dereck Chisora to get the #1 WBO mandatory spot.

If they had made Fury fight someone like Whyte, we wouldn’t have to deal with the farce between Klitschko and Fury on November 28th in their fight at the ESPRIT Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany. We’d have a real 50-50 fight between Klitschko and Whyte, and I think that would be a heck of a lot more of interesting of a fight than the mismatch between Klitschko and Fury.

“Tyson Fury is not a power puncher. He does not have power behind his punches, is it with combinations that his opponents are TKO’d?” Klitschko said. “Anthony Joshua is still raw but improved a lot so I think he would (beat Fury), yes. He would win that fight too.”

Fury’s knockouts in the past have come against dreadful opposition. He’s not had to face anyone good. He’s been knockout out guys like Vinny Maddalone, Martin Rogan, Joey Abell and Christian Hammer. Fury has been padding his resume for years with soft 2nd and 3rd tier opposition, which is why he has so many knockouts.
